USCIS approved our I-130 on February 18, 2011. I have been calling NVC everyday and today (February 28, 2011) they FINALLY received it, but told me it may take up to 6 weeks to recieve our NVC number??? Is that correct? It seems as if other people are getting their number & packet a lot sooner. Is there anything I can do to expedite this process? I just want to be with my husband :(

Timeline:

8/14/10 Marriage Ceremony (Sacred Valley, Peru)

8/20/10 Civil Wedding (Wanchaq, Cusco, Peru)

10/9/10 I-130 Packet Mailed via EMS (Honolulu, HI)

10/12/10 USCIS Receives Packet (Chicago, IL)

10/20/10 Petition Routed to the California Service Center for Processing

11/16/10 Received Form I-797 for I-130

11/19/10 Sent I-129F (Honolulu, HI)

11/23/10 USCIS Receives Packet (Lewisville, TX)

11/29/2010 Petition Routed to the California Service Center for Processing

12/6/2010 Received Form 1-797 for I-129F

2/18/2011 I-130 APPROVED!

2/18/2011 I-129F RFE Mailed

2/28/2011 NVC Recieves Approved I-130

It does not sound right. I got my case number the day after they recieved my approved petition from USCIS. I would call again and talk to another person. If that doesn't work I would ask to talk to a supervisor in order to get the right information regarding your case. But there is not much you can do to make the case go faster.

There is an obvious lag between what's actually going on at NVC and what you'll get on the phone. As of last Friday, I was told there was no record of my package. Yet, today I received a notice in the mail dated 3/1 saying it would be shipped to the embassy in a week, and it included my case number.

Oh i was not aware that NVC sent you a letter saying that they have received your file and your new assigned case number, I thought everything was done over the phone with the operator ?. Should i wait for that letter before i send all the paper work to my fiancée or is it okay to just go ahead and send it now. I got my NOA 2 letter in the mail today.

The NVC letter is not important - there is no need for it at the interview. As soon as I received the hard copy of NOA2 in the mail, I made a photo copy of it and sent it with the rest of the documents that are needed at the interview to my fiancee. Some people never receive a letter from NVC so don't be alarmed if you're one of these people.

The USCIS mailed our approved application on the 24th February, and last friday, the 4th March, we received emails with the Choice of Agent form, and our NVC Case numbers. But, phoning up the NVC's automated voice tells us they haven't received our case yet, despite the obvious emails! lol.

For me the NVC received my petition on Feb 28 and it was sent to the consulate on March 1. Once its sent to the consulate you call DOS for updates. Montreal had received it by March 4th, now I'm waiting for the P3 to be sent.

All cases are different. Most cases, as mentioned by Shorah, spend only a couple days at NVC before being forwarded on to the Embassy. But some are selected "at random" to spend two to four additional weeks at NVC (like ours). I suggest waiting until the end of the week to contact them about your case. They'll likely tell you it has already been sent to the embassy and provide you with the date that it was sent.

It seems all you folks are K-1 and pass right through. I seem to be in the same boat as felo391791 I am a CR-1 and my case was approved in California 2/18 logged in on 2/28 but I keep getting the 4 to six week countdown. I tried to strike up a conversation with the operator but they don't seem to have a clue they just look on their screen and have a script that tells them to tell you countdown is four weeks. I guess I will get bold and ask for a supervisor and see if they are any more aware of what is going on. Again seems like K-1 zip thorough but I don't see any conversation where the CR-1 are moving.

thats because the NVC dont do anything with the K-1. they just send it to the embassy. i think they actually do some work on the CR-1.

it took us a couple of weeks longer than usual as we got our noa-2 when there was all the snow and bad weather so the NVC was closed a lot, so perhaps its a little backed up right now too?
