Before abandoning the K-1, another route to try is for the USC to contact a local congressman or senator. They can put a request in with the consulate that usually gets answered pretty quickly. I know it helped in my case, I would give it a shot if I was you, before the time and money of a new visa application.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

Whatever they are checking out they are not yet done with. If you pull the K1 , they will stop looking , then a year from now when the Cr1 gets to the interview state , they will start the investigation all over. A CR1 isn't any easier or less background checking than a K1, in fact pulling the K1 may make them think you have something to hide and make them check harder/longer

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
