Filed: AOS (apr) Country: Thailand
Timeline

Did all the paperwork online using H&R block. The forms would not let me complete them without a SSN or ITIN number and finally after placing " APPLIED" in the spouses SSN block..it alloed me to print it out.

Used white out to take the " APPLIED" off the form and left it blank.

Went to H&R Block office and met with a agent who told me I had done all the forms correct. No charge.

With copies of passports ( wife's..has two current issue and expired which has the current USA Visa ) and headed down to file with the friendly folks at the local IRS office.

The IRS agent was surprised and commented that I was correct in the filling out of the forms and the W7.

Didn't need the copies of the passports and visa as she made her own copies there.

What I did not take was a copy w/ translation of our Thai marriage certificate. She stated that she needed it. Quick drive home and back we went. Sooth as silk.

IRS agent informed us that it is at least a 16 week turn around for a refund. Forms are sent from here ( Phoenix ) to Austin, TX for the ITIN number and then sent to the area processing center.

Just thought I'd pass on what my experience was.

Remember to take your marriage certificate. ( with translation if married outside CONUS )
