I'm in the same situation. I feel like I'm dying. I don't understand it at all. Did they give you a "Welcome to the USA" letter? I got one, and the official told me I'd get my visa "in about a week." Now it's been over two weeks and I'm in AP. Why? I have no idea.

When was your interview? Mine was January 19.

You call DOS and ask if your visa is printed yet. They will tell you yes it has or no you are in AP.

Inky is correct.

I called DoS to ask about my visa and the operator said it had not been issued yet and that I was in "administrative processing." I just have no idea WHY I'm in AP. My husband and I have a child together so there can be no doubt that it's a real relationship. And we dated for two years before getting married, and now we've been married almost two years. I was born in Canada; he was born in the US. We are only 5 years apart in age. We have spotless histories; there should be no problem with background checks. Why? Why am I in AP? Where is the red flag?

Did he give you a reason for AP? Although I think having a passport is a great thing, I would not have taken my home with me.

In my opinion that is going to make the wait even longer as They do not process mail very quickly, you may be in AP for say a 6

weeks but then it could take them another 6 weeks to find your package and stamp/return your passport. Again just my opinion as

MTL really is slow at times.

I am sure you have your reasoning for keeping your passport and I am not bashing you at all :)

I have seen a lot more cases of late that are ending up in AP... Anyone have any ideas?

Fatih and Kelly's Visa Journey

2010- 12-10: Sent I-130 and DS-230 Complete Package to US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey via UPS

which included everything BUT the Kitchen SINK!

2010-12-13: Per UPS, Package has been received at American Consulate in Ankara, Turkey

2011-01-20: Received Email from US Embassy in Ankara

INTERVIEW DATE 03/08/2011 @ 8:30 am !!!

2011-03-08: Placed in AP

I will NEVER give up and WILL fight to the END!

Apologies if I state in a comment that my husband and I have been together for years & years. It's just that I can hardly remember a time when he and I were not together.

If I were you, I'd apply now for some other Canadian ID--like a driver's license...or in BC we have "BC ID" which has the same ID value as a driver's license but just doesn't entitle you to drive. Maybe other provinces have something similar if you're not living in BC. I say this, because as Canadiandgal suggested, you may end up being without your passport for a while once they tell you to send it in. It'll probably sit in their mail room for a while.

I am very sympathetic. I think it's crazy that they can hang onto our passports so long.

On another topic...I've got to say...I kind of think it's unfair that I didn't get proper notification that I'm in AP. Why did they give me the welcome letter and then put me in AP?! It seems to me I should have had the AP letter you got! Either that, or I should have my visa!

best wishes,

c

Are you a Canadian born citizen? or are you from another country and got Canadian Citizenship?

The reason I ask is you said your passport is your ONLY ID. Generally people have other ID like the Canadian photo ID health card that everyone has, Drivers license etc.

If you are from certain other countrys you will get a required AP even if you have obtained Canadian Citizenship.

mtlgato, i so totally agree with you. why give someone a welcome letter only to then place them on AP??? APs should all have been resolved b4 ever giving someone a welcome letter. Do these pple know they toy with pple's lives and emotions? is there no way or no where to complain to? Why give them so much power to play God?
