My fiancee and I were in the process of sending the papers to request an interview when her father the co-sponsor decided to back out, and no longer wants to sponsor me :( She is currently a full time student and just started a part time job, so our wedding date in 4 months doesn't seem likely anymore which is killing me cause people are receiving our save the dates already. What is the amount fo money she needs to make to sponsor me ?

I believe the currant USCIS is at 125% and is $18,213.00 for 2010. However, I believe (But not sure) Only 100% is required until The AOS which requires 125%. Other members correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey, don't fret! Can no one else sponsor? It doesn't have to be her dad.. Any US citizen with good credit standing and job? Anybody?

If there's a will, there's a way! I'm sure you will both think of someone.

FYI for my interview, I had nothing to show from my fiance. He was a fresh grad so all I had were some pay stubs from his recent job and an employment letter. We did have a co-sponsor but the CO said it didnt matter coz they didnt accept those in the Philippines.. we still got approved though..

I hope you work things out!

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

So why does the manila embassy not accept co-sponsors if that is an approved govt. process for showing support? We too are in the same problem with no job but have a co-sponsor. If I have 3 times the amount above poverty line in the my bank and IRA's will this be accepted. Should we have the co-sponor as back up. I hope to have a job but we have our NAO2 now and I don't know if I will have a job in time before the interview.

Thanks

It's up to the Embassy whether or not they will allow cosponsors. The U.S. Embassy Manila has been known to allow a cosponsor if a couple is young, educated, and upwardly mobile. They also take into account, among other things, the beneficiary's job potential in the U.S. Their main concern is preventing a beneficiary from becoming a public charge once the beneficiary is in the U.S.

In theory, you should be OK if you have in the bank more than three times the amount needed in the poverty guideline table. However, the consular officers have the final say in the matter.

If I were in your shoes, I would:

1. Build the best financial case possible for myself; income, assets, expenses, etc. Show them that you can support your beneficiary.

2. Attend the beneficiary's interview in order to present your financial case, and to make your personal appeal to the consular officer.

3. Submit the cosponsor's I-134 (and it's supporting documents) at the interview.

4. Submit an I-864 (and it's supporting documents) from the cosponsor at the interview.

The I-864 from a cosponsor actually worked for a friend of mine last summer at USEM. I had read about it once previously here on VJ

Now what if we get married without a fiance visa, do that other visa,

she drops out of school and works for a year, and I can legally stay in the states for 6
months without a visa after 6 months I go back and she sponsors me ?

Why can't she just finish school then obtain a job and file for you then. Why the need to stop her education.

I feel your pain im in a similar situation where I am not sure how I will be able to show financialy that I can support my spouse. I have not been able to come up with any good answers either. Some tell me that a strong co sponsor means nothing if they embassy you file at doesnt accept a co sponsor. If she is close to graduating (like I am) then the last resort would be to graduate get a real job, and then it wont be a problem. Thats my last resort if I cant get by some other way. I was thinking of asking someone to lend me a large sum of money just so I can use it when I file. If its about 19,000 x 3 (I believe if it is cash it must be 3x's the poverty rate) so about $57000 call it $60000. I dont know if that will work I am still figuring it out myself

Very interesting you say that they submitted both a 134 and 864 for the co sponsor? Why did they decide to do that? What was the benifit?

I thought they are pretty much the same thing.
