I'm glad I checked. I really thought a certified copy was ok. I think it MAY BE consulate-specific though. If I go to Frankfurt Consulate's website, it says that a photocopy of the original is OK, provided you bring the original for inspection to the interview.

"An" original birth certificate- k, I understand. Thanks, fermat!

Sam, thanks for the info. Regarding the birth certificate, I have my husband's original certificate but he had a new one created to get his military record. The new one looks nicer (25 years takes a toll on a piece of paper lol) so I am planning to use the second one. Do you think that's ok or should I use the original one?

I would suggest the original. Those people had two certified copies issued the the proper authorities and they still didn't approve it. I asked about translation and they said it's not needed as long as the language spoken in that country is the same written on the cert. I ended up sending the 25 year old one. Good luck.

So there is no need to send in a translation with the birth certificate? I already translated it so I was going to send it attached. I also translated the police certificate. It wouldn't hurt to send in the translations, right?...

It all depends on who you talk to as to what they tell you. I was told 90 days, 15 business days, 3 to 6 weeks.......and the list goes on and on. The fact remains that USCIS has not transferred my approved petition to the NVC. It took at least a dozen phone calls and emails before I finally realized that TSC is hosed!!! NVC can't process what they don't have. While receiving my NOA2 hardcopy in the mail was GREAT, that feeling has turned to despair after 67 days waiting for TSC to "finish processing my petition". Guess we have to keep our eyes on the prize at the end of the journey; knowing that someday we will all be reunited with our families. My wife and I can (and will get through this), but it is so hard when my daughters keep asking me "why is this taking so long for mommie"? I sometimes ask myself why do we need borders, passports, visas, etc....We are all God's children just trying our best to stay alive with some measure of happiness for ourselves and our families. Although our spouses are from different countries, I feel you guys here on this thread are part of my extended family. Keep the faith, and my wife and I will be praying for all of US.

Dan

I agree. Entirely too much importance put on NOA2. There are 100 ways you can stumble along the way.

So you would get it back during the interview?

I wouldn't send anything beyond what they ask for.

How can an NVC officer verify a document in a foreign language without an English translation? I'm sending in the translations. The last thing I need is an RFE! :)

Exactly! I had lost my original birth certificate so I requested a new one. Any copy made by the Bureau of Vital Statistics is a "certified" copy.
