I dreamed of this day. The day that I, too, could share with my fellow VJ members that my I-129 F petition has been approved. I have been feeling down these last few days and I have been checking my USCIS account often. I checked it yesterday and there was nothing new; the same tired last update date of 09/01/2010.

Today, after reading the VJ forums for a while, almost without hope, I ventured to log in to my account at the USCIS website and what do I see? A last update date of 01/24/2011! I did a double take, really? I opened my tired eyes wider. Clicked on the receipt number as I dialed the USCIS customer service line (was it approved or will I get a RFE?). But my case status is clear:

"On January 24, 2011, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

The automated USCIS voice was reading outloud what I was reading on the website.

After 150 days my petition has been approved. Today, I also received the news that my vacation has been approved and I will be able to go see my love for Spring break. I will go to the DR this March before going back, once again, for the interview.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

I actually just recently (01/06/11) returned from visiting him for 10 days. Yet, I want to see him again soon and it would perhaps be more economically sensitive to wait until the interview date to go again, but money was made to be spent, right? :P

So, I will go for Spring break and for the interview. I am guesstimating that the interview will take place in more or less 3 months from now (guesstimate based on Dominican timelines). Do I see a flicker of light at the end of this dark tunnel?

Feel exactly the same about the "flicker of light"...the good thing is that trips to DR are cheaper than to Chile! If I could, I'd go now and for the interview, but at $1000+ a pop no can do...definitely hoping to be there for the interview.

Feel exactly the same about the "flicker of light"...the good thing is that trips to DR are cheaper than to Chile! If I could, I'd go now and for the interview, but at $1000+ a pop no can do...definitely hoping to be there for the interview.

Maybe Chile does not take as long as the DR to schedule interviews after NOA2. It seems to me that the DR consulate takes a while (from what I have seen 3-4 months after NOA2), but other consulates are faster. I hope your interview date is scheduled soon! Follow the light at the end of the tunnel! :P
