Cora,

I don't know why but I got a good feeling reading this thread. If you've gotten this far you have to assume you have a good chance. Typically employers and agencies won't go this far if they feel it won't pan out. Good hunting!

I think I do to, and the guy said as much to me. He really wants me hired, but the owner of the company is a little leary, says its like taking someone out of high school football and putting them in the NFL. And I see his point, I work at your standard run of the mill jewelery store, when this company deals with $100K+ diamonds. Im just hoping that he will give me a chance.

Thank you for your "happy thoughts" though!

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

I don't have to start looking for a job for another 4 months or so (I got 6 months mat leave from Canada) but when I do, I am hoping that since my last 2 employers are technically American companies it will look good on my resume. I will just put the name of the employer and not the address, so I don't come across as an "immigrant" and hopefully that will make it easier.

Good luck to all those looking :)

So as I said On Sunday I applied at multiple places at my local mall...Most of which were "taking applications" but not hiring at this time. My darling husband seems to think that I should be calling all 20+ places to ask them if they have looked over my application, he says that In the US thats the only way you get hired. I hate calling people in the first place but at the same time I feel as though I will be bugging these people.

Opinions?

I called some places and then stopped. Most of the calls I made ended up with the person being rude and saying not to call because they were busy and they said they would call me if they were interested. Others said sorry we don't accept call inquiries on Resume or Job status, we will call you if you get the job.

After I got thos types of responses I stopped trying to call places about the resume and if they needed anything else from me.

--------

On a lighter note - my interview today went really well! The Two people who interviewed me were very nice and chatty. I think it was one of the most relaxed interviews I have ever had in my life lol. It seemed really positive, i'm going to call tomorrow when I make a choice on what shift I would like. They specifically asked me to think about which one I would like so I think thats good? It ended up that they didn't even bring up pay or wage stuff at all... i'm not really sure if that is good or bad and figured I would ask on the phone tomorrow because I didn't want to seem like it was only about the money(its not). The interview lasted from about 10:20 to 11:40. They gave me the " 50cent tour not the 25 cent tour " he said. Which was basically the entire place was shown to me, i'm not sure they would do that for someone if they weren't considering having them work there?

I made it home in one piece! we are having a crazy snow/wind storm here since last night and its pretty bad to drive in but I was not about to give up on going to the interview, hopefully other interviews canceled from weather because this Clinic never closes so now they know I will drive in really bad conditions to get to work =) and not be calling all the time saying "I cant drive in this! i'm not coming!" lol.

Awesome Inky! Hopefully it turns out well! When will you hear back?

As for calling jobs, I didn't call any of the places I put resume's in though Wes wanted me too, for the same reason. It felt like calling them was presumptious and wasting their time when they were busy, especially as many of them told me they weren't hiring yet anyway.

Good news on my end, my background check and everything went through, so as of next week I will be a Technical Advisor for Microsoft in their store!!

Wowowowow!

After 1 year of job hunting, my FIRST interview I got. All that waiting! I got a call today and got the job =)

My first training day is Feb 14th. Going to get all the paper work done and my finger print taken for the clock-in machine and get a drug test thing etc. After my training days are over I have my shift 7am to 1pm and Sunday mornings to feed the dogs.

I get to buy some new scrubs! excited and cant wait!

Want to treat myself to something for not giving up but not sure if I should wait till my training is over lol.

I would agree with your husband and ask for around 9/hr. Usually when I've been applying I'm asking for the minimum I think is acceptable and go from there, hoping they will offer more (which really worked in this case for me). If you really want to you can say 9.25-9.75. I guess the easiest way is just to figure out what the minimum you would work for is and use that as a starting place.

To bring up a post from a while ago, the best answer to this type of question is "What is your salary range?".

It's kind of like an "I'm not telling you first".

Try not to talk about salary in the interview, try not to bring it up until AFTER you have been hired, reason being that it's not easy finding the right person for a job. If you've impressed the interviewers enough to employ you, you have the upper hand and paying a little more to keep you isn't too big a deal, at this point you can find out everything you are responsible for and expected to do, sell your skills, and go from there.

Don't be afraid to ask for what you are worth!

Thanks, in later posts I had said I really wanted around 9$ and when I spoke to them today (before they hired me) They asked the shift hours I wanted and I asked what kind of wages they were looking at for the position and they said " well for you we were looking at around 9$/hr is that ok?" and I said thats just great I was thinking around that as well.

Hehe I cant wait till first paycheck! my husband is terrified of my first pay check cus I told him its going in the baby savings account LOL!!!

---

Thanks everyone for the grats and well wishes! hope everyone else finds the job they want too!
