Hi

I have been in the country 6 months and have been trying to get a SSN, without luck! I keep being told i am not in the database. I entered on a K1 and have called USCIS, DOS, SS Office.....does anyone know who i can call to find out if i am in the SAVE database or if there is a problem? I have my EAD but am unable to obtain a job without my SSN.

Thanks

Only SSA can access this.

GO TO a different SSA office, sometimes you run into an incompetent moron at some SSA offices, and simply have to go to a different office.

They should issue SSN based on a valid EAD card.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I'm sure each office differs slightly, and sometimes you just get staff who don't know what they're talking about. My Mom encountered this when she moved back to the US from Canada 3 years ago. She was born here but had never been issued one, which the SSA wanted to confirm before issuing her a card...took 10 months. Anyway, in answer to your question..

Yes I recommend perhaps trying a different SSA office. Personally, I didn't have an issue when I applied for mine about 3 weeks back. I had entered the US 11 days prior to applying, and I just went to the office with my application filled out and my passport handy. With an EAD, they should for sure issue you one! There's a link here on VJ - I think it's in the Guides - where you can get a link to the SSA website and print the page where it clearly states that K-1s are entitled to one. I brought a copy with me but didn't end up needing it. Have you tried calling the office to the SSA helpline? I'm not sure whether I was in the SAVE database or not when I applied, but given that K-1s are entitled, as are spouses, you should just be able to show your visa.

Hope that helps. Hang in there!

While the SSA office cannot see the “SAVE” database contents, they do have a means to inquire about your entry through the USCIS department. As suggested, either go to another SSA office or ensure that the local office entered the name correctly, and, that they have submitted a clarification request through the USCIS. In our case they got the names jumbled. Thus, we had to follow up again with our SSA office. Worst case scenario, visit a local USCIS office and have your Passport, Visa, and I-94 document to confirm what is listed in the “SAVE” database, and then return to the SSA office. An experienced SSA officer should know how to communicate with the USCIS office in order to rectify most problems with your “SAVE” entry.

My husband had issues when he came into the country. Although his I 94 was correctly spelled his name in SAVE wasn't You have to go to an immigration inspection station ( think international airport) and have them "fix" things.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

There isn't a deferred inspection point in the OKC airport because even though it's the Will Rogers World airport, it's not international. (Go figure)

There is a deferred inspection point locally. 4300 Highline Blvd, Suite 250. (South of I-40 off of Meridian but North of the airport.) Text me for the directions.

ya - to get things fixed in SAVE -

a FAST method is to go to secondary/deferred inspection point with CBP -

Thread moved from AOS forum to Working & Traveling During US immigration as it is concerned with obtaining a SSN which is discussed through this forum

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I have been having the same problem with getting an SSN. I applied for one just over 6weeks ago & still have no SSN card. Knowing that i had plenty of time to apply for one before my I-94 expired. Now my I-94 has expired, so no chance in getting a SSN now. Even though i called the social security office today to find out whats happened.. The woman wasn't helpful at all, all i was told was i had to go to the office in person to find out what's happened..

We first met online 2004, but things started to get serious in Dec 2007. Made my first visit to the USA in march 2008 for 2 weeks. Then returned again in Aug 2008 for 3 months.. Then i came back to the UK for 5 months to return back to the USA April 2009 for another 3months.

For any U.S. born citizen applying for an original SSN (except when you apply at the hospital at birth), SSA has to verify the birth record, and you think SAVE verification is slow.

What good it that going to do? The K-1 status is expired and they have an EAD card now.

The USCIS and DOS have both refused to help her. The CBP CAN access the SAVE database to see whether she was ever entered properly in the first place. Regardless of the fact that she has an EAD, the SSA runs off of the SAVE database which is accessable by the US Customs & Border Patrol as well as the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Even if the CBP can't help her, they might be able to point her in the right place if she goes in person with her I-94 (expired or not).

I still say it is a waste of time. If anything go to the SSA office and ask to speak with the manager that is over the Service Reps that take the SSN applications. Ask is a secondary electronic verification was done, and if yes, did they receive a response. If the response was to submit her documents, has a G-845 been sent. If yes, how long ago, and have they received the third level verification from the G-845. If over a month ago and no response, have they called the verification office. That is more useful than a trip to any CBP office.
