Actually they don't have to be notarized. They can be just letters from your friends. That is all we sent and got approved pretty quickly!

I didn't notarize mine either. I just let them write in their own handwritings in their own words but I made sure specific information was included.

Yeah, notary in public can only verify that real people are involved in writing this letter. It still doesn't say anything about the friendship you're claiming. It always good to describe the circumstances you met etc etc. That can sometimes be verified.

According to an IO I spoke with during an infopass appointment, the letters from friends carry the least weight when it comes to showing a bonafide relationship. She said they know people write these letters themselves all the time so they don't pay much attention to them. She mentioned Taxes, bills, and financial statements are what speaks about a couple not some letters written by others. Notorized or not. You should by all means add it to your evidence but remember it will not be the reason you get approved.

I phoned USCIS this morning to ask whether the affadavits need to be notorised and she confirmed that they do NOT. Just needs a signed letter with plenty of information.

Conditions removed May 2011

AOS interview and approval 21 April 2009
