Hello all,

I have recently become a U.S. citizen living in the US and am in the process of bringing my parents who are still residing in home country to live in the US.

My parents are filling out the DS230 (to be mailed to National Visa Center in Portsmouth, NH). However, there are no instructions regarding the supporting documentation required on the USCIS website at all.

Do we need to submit any supporting documentation at this point or we would be given a checklist later after mailing in the DS230 alone?

We are very confused regarding this and also what the next steps are.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

:)

Hi p1db1,

Thanks for the prompt response. Yes, I filed the I-130 and that has been approved.

I paid the $70 Affidavit of Support Fee and the $400 IV fee online. I printed out both I-864 and DS230 forms online as instructed along with cover letters for both that go to NVC in Portsmouth, NH.

Since my parents are not as fluent in English as I am and they are still in their home country so I am filling out the forms for them and will send both forms from the US here.

There are no instructions or checklist that come with DS230. I am confused and wondering if I need to mail any supporting documentation such as police clearance report or birth certificate with that and whether photocopies or originals are required.

Any additional advice?

Did you (the sponsor) file I-130 and has that been approved? Once that is approved, USCIS will send approval to NVC and only then NVC will contact your parents regarding filing DS-230. You the sponsor will also be asked by NVC to file I-864 affidavit of support.

This is the website your looking for. You need to submit the required "civil documents" with the ds-230. The ds-230 part 1 only should be signed by the BENEFICIARY.

Birth Certificates

Court and Prison Records

Deportation Documentation

Marriage Certificates

Marriage Termination Documentation

Military Records

Petitioner Documents

Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page

Police Certificates

Adoption Documentation

two passport sized photos

(all should be original or certified copies) except biographic page on passport (copy dont send their passports)

Also when you are finished with your packet make two sets of copies of everything, send one set along with your packet and keep one for your records

ALSO:

Petitioner Documents

Who needs to submit petitioner documents?

If you are applying for an IR5 (Parent of a U.S. Citizen) visa, you are required to provide:

Original or certified copy of your Petitioner’s birth certificate

Original or certified copy of your Petitioner’s marriage certificate from the Petitioner’s current and all previous marriages.

If you are applying for a F4 (Brother or Sister of a U.S. Citizen) visa you are required to provide:

Original or certified copy of your Petitioners birth certificate.
