Hi everyone,

Do you think if its possible that the package is still lost in the USCIS office although they received it already. Mine was delivered there like 2 weeks ago so if there was anything, I could've received the package back by now. But I remember I double-checked it before sending it out. Do you think I should give them a call? I live 3 hours away from Chicago so I dont think it will take a long time to receive anything from them by mail.

i was looking at your signature. what do you mean by return receipt? anyway, usually you receive the NOA (acknowledgment that they received it and will take action) a week or two after they receive it, so give it several days more. your NOA could be on its way now.

A return receipt is part of a USPS service that confirms delivery. You complete a form with your return address and it comes back to you, proving receipt by a real person at the destination.

For what it's worth, I also paid for the return receipt service when I sent my AOS materials out on 18th November. The return receipt itself only came back today, and yet we received the NOAs on Saturday! Things can happen out of order when the post is involved, perhaps even more so at this time of year.

Hi there,

one thing I learned from this forum is that USCIS is a busy place and as an outsider will never understand how, who and where applications are processed.

Some people get initial receipts, invitations for fingerprinting aka biometrics or the interview sooner, some get it later. There's literally thousands of applications going in per week and so one can only hope that the application submitted is higher up on a to-do work stack of papers of an immigration officer.

It's not only the first submission, once they take your money and accept application for processing it will be on its way to another office somewhere in the US, in the end will be at your local office, again waiting is the only thing you can do as you don't know how busy they are - yet make you worried when you read that others already have their appointments scheduled and you still waiting for yours.

From my own experience I can add that an attorney explained to me that for example cases of battered spouses with self petition literally only have a handful of employees at the national service center that work on those applications and that only 2-3 days a week before they work on other submissions.

So no matter how far or how close you live to any USCIS place, distract yourself and be pleasantly surprised when you receive an update either online or by mail as you never know how far your application is.

Good luck on your adjustment :)

Don't get yourself worried here, I know from my own experience that signing up for a text message, email notification is not reliable. I sent in my AOS package including request for email notices in mid October and have not received a single email from them. But in the meantime got my initial receipts NOA1s and even my appointment for biometrics in the mail. Same goes with the online status update of your cases, don't rely on that, last touch dates may be weeks back and you even received something in the postal mail unexpectedly.

The only reliable source you have is the Fedex delivery confirmation ;)

Good luck on your immigration journey!!

Either your NOA1 is on its way, or the whole package has been rejected because something (maybe a signature) is missing. If the latter is the case, then you just fix it and send it back; you lose some time... yeah, but really not too big a deal. They send your money back too :)

Unfortunately, I don't think calling them will give you ay answers... AOS is a wait-for-the-mail-and-see game.

I know you are worried, but in the end, it's going to be okay! Relax! I was so worried the whole time... worried that they didn't take fingerprints for AP (it's not required but some people here said it was)... worried that our interview letter didn't come and didn't come! (our local office was just the slowest in the country at the time... ugh). I called the customer line and argued with them, I tried to get answers (hey where is the letter, maybe it's lost in the mail!), but that customer service line is pretty useless. But look, it all worked out! What did that worrying get me? Nothing.

and +1 to Maxximus's consistent reminders to chill out! :)

Pretty soon you will know what the hold up is. Maybe it's just really slow there right now and NOA1 will come soon!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

It's OK if they rejected my package.I dont mind if i lose some time for that but the bad thing is that I'll have to pay more since the fee is up already :(. I called my bank today and they said both checks are not cashed yet. Just hopefully sometime this week I will have some news

xxtinaxx I would say to relax. Look at my signature! It's a mess of dates and waiting. It took over a month for them to send me a NOA of my I-130! So just wait and I'm sure it's all going to be fine! In the meantime, tea sounds great!
