I was reading the USCIS website, and I wanted to check the status of the application of my aunt since i am helping her do the paperworks. this is what written on the uscis website to check your case online, by the way. my aunt is the beneficiary and his brother is the petitioner.

" To view the status of a case, please enter the corresponding application receipt number. The 13-character application receipt number can be found on application notices you have received from the USCIS. It begins with three letters such as (EAC, WAC, LIN, or SRC). Dashes ("-") should be omitted when entering a receipt number. However, all other characters, including asterisks ("*"), can be included if listed on your notice as part of the receipt number.

Listed above are the possible steps an application or petition may go through during processing. Not every application or petition will spend time in each of these steps. Once you enter your receipt number you will see the steps that will always be required for that particular application or petition. The step in the process where your case is currently located will be highlighted. Other steps will appear if your case requires that particular step."

my question is. I am confused with the 13 character receipt number. because the one we have is none of those three letters, we have an MNL letters starting the application number. what does that means? can someone please enlighten me. i know i sound dumb writing this but really i have no idea what it meant. and I just want to check on the website on my aunts case status...

thanks.

MNL indicates the NVC has assigned the case number - that's a step after the USCIS approval. You need to have petitioner check with NVC on the status. What category and what date was the petition filed?

ROC 2009
Naturalization 2010

thansk for youre reply. we tried to email the nvc, and they replied to me and we expected somehow what was on the message. that the case is not yet current. it was filed 1993. the current november priority is 1991. then by december it will retrogress to 1988. ..,

i got another question. when do nvc send the form ds230 and all those stuff? is it only when our priority date is current?. i was told that months before the priority date will be current, nvc will have ask us to fill up those forms and pay some fees.. our category is f4. brother of USC.

Here's what happened to my mom's petition (F4, her oldest brother petitioned for her and her derivatives), PD is April 1, 1988. She got a DS 3032 from NVC last Dec. 1,2009(which is the choice of agent form) ,which she appointed me as her agent. Then we got a bill for the IV fee and AOS fee 2/2/2010(NVC actually emailed the bill to me and I paid it online 3/5/2010). Their priority date became current Jul. 2010 but we did not submit the Ds 230 and other stuff 'til Sep. 2010 because we had a hard time obtaining my uncle's birth certificate from NSO. Mid October I got an RFE for I864A for my uncle's wife and I submitted everything by October 30,2010 when I called NVC to check it said on the recorded message that they didn't get the file 'til Nov. 16,2010. So, at this time we are just waiting. You can actually download the DS 230 online and after you pay the fees NVC will give you further instructions on how to proceed. Hope this info helps.
