Hello to all,

I'm new to this forum and I have a couple of questions.

I'm a German citizen and I currently live and work in Chicago on an E1 visa, I'm in the US since 5 years.

My girlfriend is from Mexico and we are planning to get married, she only has a tourist visa.

She was here for 8 months and she had to go back to Mexico every 4 months or so to maintain her visa status.

I also applied for a green card through my employer, in the 3rd category (skilled worker)back in August 2008.

My Petition was approved and I'm now waiting for my date to become current to adjust my status to permanent resident, which seems to take forever :(

I would like to know, what I have to do and how long it can take for my girlfriend to be able to live with me here in the US.

Also would it be easier to get married on my E1 visa before I receive my green card, or would it be better to receive my green card first and then get married?

Hope somebody can help me....

Get married now so she can get an E1 an adjust with you.

Her border hopping will come to an end sooner or later.

Hi Boiler,

thanks for your quick reply.... So the process will def be much faster and less complicated if we get married on an E1 visa, I got that part:)

Let's say we get married on an E1 visa, would my wife have to leave the US once our date for adjustment of status to permanent resident becomes current?

Also would we be able to keep my actual current date?

I'm just afraid that we would be separated, once the actual green card process starts.

She would get an E Visa as your spouse, you would not marry on it.

When it came time to adjust then you both would.
