i-864 sponsorship

I recently got married to a US citizen and began the process of applying for a green card immigrate there. After submitting the i-130 and the G-325A we received packet 3. In this packet there are a number of forms which we are required complete and return to the US embassy in Seoul. We note that my wife must satisfy a minimum income requirement (according to form labeled I-864) before she can act as my sponsor. We are a little confused about what income she can list to satisfy this requirement. She works as an English teacher in South Korea and earns over $35,000 a year and she has filed US federal income tax returns every years since coming to Korea three years ago. Will my wifes income be accepted by immigration or must we ask a family member in the US to sponsor us?

Any advice on this matter will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

InKorea.

If your household is 2, it sounds like this amount is good enough and no need of another sponsor.

The income must be income that will continue once you are living in America. It would be best to obtain a co-sponsor as well.

You are probably right, I will have to call my brother in the US and ask him to sponsor me.

It is a pity that the forms they give sent me weren't a bit clearer on this so I could have sorted this out by now.

Hopefully I can have my brother fill out and return the forms I need before my interview next month.
