I know that every potential male immigrant from certain countries that are considered hostile to the US and/or are considered risky for terrorism (due to large concentrations of muslim population) and/or have a high record of visa fraud, have to go through compulsory AP after their interview (even if approved at the interview) and before their visa can be issued.

These countries normally include: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates.

It seems like it's standard practice for people from those countries. That said, there can be other reasons

for AP.

The reasons for AP vary from one country to another.. some countries use AP for an investigation at the consulate and others use AP for an investigation done by DHS... we were in AP for quite a while and not from a MENA country.. it was because we were still married when we met..

Every person regardless of Religious affiliation or gender from the "list of 26" countries goes through additional screening, its not optional its a regulation at State Department and DHS.

There are other reasons for AP as someone mentioned basically anything that might "trip the trigger" of the Consular officer can result in AP.

how about these people in here from these countries that gets approved immediately after the interview and receive their visa in a week tops, or maybe they do these checks prior to the interview sometimes, i would not know.

I don't know how long it takes, I cannot speak to that. Some cases go very quickly, some take longer. I do know that it is a regulation that all persons from the list of 26 go through the additional security screening and that as I mentioned if the consular has any concerns has the authority to hold up the approval pending whatever checks/additional info they might require from the applicant or beneficiary.

Information that may trigger greater scrutiny include unexplained travel to predominantly Muslim countries in the last 10 years, prior employment in sensitive areas, military service for certain nationals, or specialized skills or training that may have military or security implications.

I truly think there is no rhyme or reason why some people from T countries goes through so easily. I do know it has alot of to do back ground check on both the USC and beneficiary. My husband was one of the lucky few who made it through without AP/AR.

Why? I don't know. I do know that I had all my paperwork in order both on my side AND my husband's side. I made sure that everything that was asked for was there and available and then some.

I made sure to be at the interview with my husband in Cairo to be supportive AND also so they could see how we interact with each other.

Did I have everything they wanted? To be honest, probably not but then we didn't give them any reason to be doubtful about our relationship.

So you think it is crucial to have my wife with me at the interview ?

So you think it is crucial to have my wife with me at the interview ?
It never hurts and can definitely help.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We didn't have any AP at the consular level. Once his waiver was approved, his visa was issued. However, we got caught up in a lengthy namecheck stateside that held up our I-130 approval for 2.5 years.

I'd say that name checks and security clearances are the most likely reason behind AP.

I found records of background checks during my husband's asylum. In addition to the name check, clearances from Interpol-france and DHS were also included.
