Me and my fiancee (She is the us citizen i am a uk citizen) are hoping to start the K1 visa process in march but we are trying to work out the costs on filing each bit.

I know that the initial petition is $455, but we were wondering what other costs there are, i saw somewhere something about aplying for AOS is about $900.

I'm full time employed and she is a single mom, unemployed. So any informaiton you guys have to help us out would be really great

The total comes to $1,010 ($930 plus a biometrics fee of $80)and should be filed before the 90 days expire.

I believe as of November 23rd the new fee for the fiance visa goes down to $340 however the AOS fee goes up to $1090( I think). You will also have to add in expenses for travel to the US and if you will need any vaccinations in the US for the AOS. The marriage fees, cost of living.... You can't work until after you get married and file for AOS and receive a EAD/GC allowing you to work. You're looking at a few grand.

That's the fee before November 23rd. The AOS has no time frame to be filed however it's recommended to file ASAP. The marriage must take place within the 90 days of entry.

Your fiancee will need to be making at least 125% of the established poverty line for however big her family size is (you said she's a mom) + you. So if she has 1 kid, she needs to make 125% of the poverty line for a family of 3.

She and you should read this, which explains it better: http://www.visajourn...content/support

So other than those amounts for filing, travel, AOS, and marriage license there isn't anything we are missing except postage costs

I know that my fiancee has to be my main sponsor but if we have a co-sponsor does that co-sponsor also have to be a us citizen/permemnant citizen or can i get someone from the uk to be the co-sponsor, eg. a parent or relative

So I guess I made the mistake of not looking up all the additional fees for the K1. Other than the $455, is there a fee that needs to be paid at the interview? I know there are all the medical, and DHL, and all of that part, but is there anything else? Then the AOS, which the price shocked me, I better start saving for that also.

I guess I'm just wondering if there is anything else...Trying to avoid surprises

Cosponsor can be any USC but must be a USC.

Regardless of the fees, she needs to fill out the affidavit of support (I-134) by the time when you go for the interview & she needs to have a certain income at that time (above poverty line). Be prepare for that also when considering the other fees. Very good luck to you! Remember, unless you have certain cap of money, you can't self sponsor your self. She needs to do that.

Also remember that you can not legally work as a K-1 until you marry within 90 days of entry AND you file for AOS (GC and EAD and AP). The EAD usually comes quick (about 2 months) and then you can legally work.

Also she will have to file a I-864 financial declaration and will need a cosponsor for that when she files the AOS.

As petitioner, is is her ball game. You can help out but the burden is on her.

Even if you marry her now and go the CR-1 route, the financial declaration and sponsorship doesn't change.

Haha yeah, I think everyone feels like that when they're first figuring it out. It took me a few reads of everything on this website related to the K1 before I finally understood it all. Make sure you read the guides, wiki (click the link at the top, then click "show all pages" and read the ones you find relevant), and the FAQs. Then read them again, and again. And then you should be good to go. :)

If we had a bank account in her name in the US with the amount of the poverty line, would that be enough to meet the requirements of the sponsor thing, or does it have to be an actual income, showing that is what she earns in a year. So if we had say 20k (or whatever the amount is for the poverty line 25k i think) in a savings account would that meet the requirements of the sponsor part although she doesnt make 20k a year.

Also when working out the poverty line, do i need to include myself in the family number, think i do but just want to make sure
