Do you guys have any gift ideas you'd like to share...

I'm starting to look into my Xmas shopping list, and I'd like to find things that we don't have in Canada.. But I don't want to send everyone boxes of Smores Poptarts... :wacko:

Any suggestion is welcome!

Ovaltine.. yes I know they have it in Canada but my mom says the stuff down here tastes better then the stuff in Canada...

Cookie Crisp cereal is fun, or a collection of American chocolate bars like Mounds, 5th Avenue, and Baby Ruth. I'm also a big fan of Orbit gum, which isn't available in Canada -- mint mojito and pina colada especially!

Actually, I find the Ovaltine in Canada tastes better than the Ovaltine here - the Canadian versions are more malty and more chocolatey. Here they are just more sugary.

I've made up gift baskets with grocery items which are specific to this area of the country - generally the 'raw' ingredients and preserves - and then added a cookbook of local recipes. It is easy to do for the South as there is a definitely 'southern' style of food. It would depend on where you live now and how different the menus are from back home. (People enjoyed the cornbread flour and mixes; they weren't as fussy about the boiled peanuts! :lol: )

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

07/09/2014 sent in IR-1 packet to Chicago Lockbox

07/16/2014 NOA1

07/17/2014 check cashed by USCIS

10/01/2014 found out we are expecting baby #2 June 2015!

12/15/2014 NOA2

12/30/2014 Case received by NVC

03/23/2015 Received Case and Inv # from NVC after many calls and bogus excuses.

03/24/2015 AOS payment accepted by NVC

04/09/2015 IV payment finally accepted by NVC after the set the wrong fee and took weeks to correct it.

*many more delays thanks to the agency processing my fingers prints to the RCMP and the post office losing our mail*

Chex mix, Slim Jims, Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop Kettle Corn, Pucker, and Diet Mountain Dew. My brothers always enjoyed tshirts/hats with college sports teams. I was (and will be again!) in Georgia and got a bunch of Bulldogs stuff. I'm hoping to do some shopping here before I move so I won't have to ship so much.

So, who you gonna believe? Your Mom or me? Oh, wait . . . :lol: !

Sounds like a blind taste test is required! :D

I did find when I mixed a teaspoon of pure coca in with the chocolate Ovaltine here it tasted more like the Canadian one I remember - but it is the malt one I like best, and sadly, the US malt Ovaltine is just not up to snuff :( .

I tried the boiled peanuts when we were in Georgia. I think they have to be one of the nastiest tasting things I have ever eaten. The texture was pretty bad as well!!
