I am wondering if anyone can help me get a specific answer about a visa I am waiting on. It is for a K-1. The interview was July 21, and the woman who interviewed us said she "saw no reason it should/would not be approved" and "as far as she was concerned it was approved," but that Washington had to officially approve it after receiving the paperwork, etc. My man said he saw her stamp "APPROVED" on the paperwork... She told us he would be receiving a call within 2-3 weeks to come and retrieve his visa and gave him an "open pass" to do just that. But... now 2 full months later and nothing. I have spoken with someone a few times at the general 202 visa phone number and then today finally was able to speak with a human at the Interests Section in Cuba, but neither could give me any answer as to why it was taking so long (compared to what we were told and compared to several people-- Cubans-- I have met in an online forum who were granted the visa within a few short days).

I just want to find out where the heck the paperwork is b/c they said in Havana that it is out of their hands now... that they have approved it, but that it is up to the State Department to tell them they can issue it, but when I talk to a person at the State Department visa number they tell me that they have no access to any additional information other than that it is in the administrative processing phase. That phase can take up to a year, according to the woman at the U.S. Interests Section with whom I spoke today...

Hi Katy, sorry this happening to you. I have heard it can take three to six months after being approved by the U.S. Interest Section to actually get the visa in hand. That is just what I've heard, I don't have first hand experience. A friend's fiance got approved and it took between one and two months. Seems like the Havana website says don't even ask them about it if hasn't been six months. http://havana.usint.gov/check_case_status.html

I sure hope we don't run into this same problem once we are approved. Again, don't have any info for you, just sympathy.
