Hi...to everyone. I want to ask how much money we have to prepare for the K1 visa, over all expenses excluding the plane ticket. Thank you so much. Your help is highly appreciated.

Merejen

The I-129 F petition cost: $455

Medical, vaccination, police checks, passport, pictures, etc. costs: varies

Visa: About $350

AOS form: $1,010

Miscellaneous expenses: varies!

So... As you can see, the costs vary too much to give an exact figure. Also, you need to think about the expenses in relation to visiting each other (plane tickets, hotels, food, transportation, gifts, etc.)

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

What I've paid so far:

$60: new printer with copier/scanner for the bajillions of copies I had to make

$40: additional ink cartidges, paper for "see above"

$15: passport photos for peitioner and beneficiary

$455: I-129F visa filing fee

$17.50: 1-day express mailing fee

priceless: my sanity

And thats only just submitting the I-129F, I still have a LONG way to go. You'll end up paying with more than just money for this process

Please mention that Atty's are really only needed for complex or controversial cases. Otherwise, just DIY with help from helpful VJ'ers. Just ignore the sarcastic and condescending bitter folks here.

Cheers, and good luck!

It sure is not cheap, and it certainly doesn't end with the $455 petition fee. So, your future father-in-law may be in for a surprise, or you may have to find a job to pay pack if he chooses to loan you the money (rather than gifting you the money). Still, money comes and goes, but love? You can't buy it! You either have it or you don't :)

For each country it will vary slightly based on their requirements as well as certified copies needed if you have prior marriages/divorce decrees, or criminal history you need to document.

For us:

$455 Petition fee

$100 FedEx to send package off to the USCIS

$20 (give or take) in office supplies for paper, tabs, partition folders, etc.

$5.25 Copy fee for my divorce decree

$47 to USPS International Express his Packet 3 forms, I-134, and all documentation for his interview to England

£10 Medical Records to prove vaccination history

£200 for the Medical

£30 Police Certificate

$350 Visa fee

£14.20 Courier fee

I'm lucky enough to work for a very laid back company that has let me use their color copier, scanner and laser printers mercilessly throughout this process for no fees. My idiot attorney (now fired) isn't going to end up costing me a dime because she's not actually DONE anything and her assistant is even asking me for help with HER K1 because the atty gave her the same bad advice she gave me. Peter got all of his necessary shots from his GP, so he didn't need anything else at the Medical.

Hope this helps! Good luck to you!
