Hello everybody, I have just finished my K1 visa interview. But the consular that interviewed me says he is going to do a background check on me before making his decision. Please, can someone tell me what he means, and how long this will take before getting the result. Secondly, I was asked to pay 385 Euro before the interview, which is more than the visa fee. I really don´t know why this huge fee.

Congratulations on your interview. It's not highly unusual that a background check is done. If you don't mind my asking, what is your nationality? Sometimes, if you are a foreigner in Spain they will run additional background checks. Hope this helps. My fiance had his interview this week at Madrid and we are still waiting to hear too. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

As about money, may be they took money for a delivery there with visa fee together? As about background check, possible you know already some things from interview, what kind of questions they asked you, if about work/education-can check in this area, if you traveled a lot or were living in different countries-another check...and may be simply they didn't finish to check just your petition papers and fingerprints, so different checks can take different time, from some days to some months, be positive and don't read too much about long checks, it's too early.

HI ASSW, hope you get your VISA quickly. Just out of curiosity, what consulate did you have your interview at? Barcelona or Madrid?
