Moderate muslims deny the existence of and the negative influence of extremists and terrorists who usurp the muslim religion for their own ends? I do not believe that is true at all.

What horrible precedent? Local governments face off with citizens all the time on urban planning issues. It's been handled within the law and everyone had their say without a lot of violence. Government doesn't exist to suppress all strife and differences but to make sure things are carried under the rule of law.

If your only explanation as to why a project is being denied is xenophobia, then I think you have set a horrible precedent.
