Just seeing how far Charles is prepared to go. Him being a mod and all - give the guy enough rope to hang himself and he might actually do it.

I see. so you were bitc!n about baiting while baiting.

The picture in Germany is sure to change - Merkel's government would have to make a lot of mistakes not to gain some traction in light of the significantly improved economic situation and outlook. Recent economic news out of Germany are quite impressive. The premium automobile manufacturers (Daimler, BMW and Audi) are raking it in again big time. BMW, for example, reported profits for Q2/10 that are seven-fold those of Q2/09. Daimler booked over EUR 2BN in pre-tax profits in Q2/10 after losing EUR 1BN in Q2/09. Audi just about doubled it's earnings in the first half 2010 over the same timeframe 2009 and is looking to deliver over 1MM cars this year - an all time record. The privatized Postal Service corrected it's already strong earning's forecast (1.6BN - 1.9BN) upwards for 2010 (1.9BN - 2.1BN). Alternative energy projects are booming, orders on heavy machinery are up and Germany is the leading engine for the economic recovery in Europe. Germany may very well soon become the leading export nation in the world again. Although it's a nation of only 80MM, and although it's not a low wage economy, Germany's exports are not far off China's exports. And yes, unemployment is decreasing and expected to fall below 3 million (~6.5%) by year-end. According to latest estimates, full employment is on the not-too-far horizon.

And no, it's not all just reports from papers. I just spoke with my buddy (small business owner w/ 5 employees) over the weekend. He's quite happy with the orders that are now coming in and with the earnings forecast for 2010 after having gone through a couple of rather lean years in 2008 and 2009. Things are looking up over there.

But sure, damn those socialists and damn the full-blown Keneysian success that Germany has mastered.
