Saturday I had some down time and somehow I ended up watching "Deadliest Warrior: Green Beret vs. Spetsnaz." The show has a lot of problems and I don't highly recommend it but I was enticed by a holster that was shown by the Spetsnaz expert and thought I would ask the RUB resident experts' opinion (not only is it a gun, it's a Russian gun).

Basically, it's a normal holster with a trick feature. By pressing down firmly (probably quite firmly), you can make the pistol exit the holster through the bottom (the holster sort of splits apart to let the trigger guard and handle through). This is only sort of useful except that as the pistol leaves the holster, there are features on the holster that disengage the safety and pull back on the action causing the gun to become caulked and the first round to enter the chamber.

When I first saw this I thought it was pretty cool but after some thought I'm not sure. Perhaps this is a common feature but just the first I have seen of it. In any case, I think this has serious potential as a concealed carry option. If I do decide that I should start concealed carry, I may consider this. Thoughts?

trick holster sounds like a good way to wind up with a round through one's foot.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Definitley not the standard MAK holster and sounds like about the most difficult way I ever heard of to chamber a round, maybe not to safe either. Real men carry the pistol cocked ad locked with a round in the chamber, the hammer at full stand and the thumb safety ON, real men (who aren't racists) carry it that way even in good neighborhoods.

The standard MAK holster is a leather pouch with a full flap, it has a smaller pouch on the side for an extra magazine and a slot for a cleaning rod. Practical enough but looks like something on a plumbers tool belt.

Sure the show has some issues but the concept is very cool. If I'm flippin through the channels I'll stop on this if it's on. They recently had CIA vs. KGB. I didn't get to see the whole episode but it looked pretty neat.

First thought is don't carry a Russian .380. If you're going to carry something, carry something that has some nuts. Next thoughts are you don't want anything "trick" when you're carrying concealed. Spetsnaz has a specific purpose and that's why they used this holster. Your purpose with concealed carry will be to carry a handgun with nobody knowing you're doing so. This holster is not ideal for that unless you're wearing a jacket or coat to cover the pisol holstered OUTSIDE your belt. Not only would this have to be hanging over your hip or strapped to your thigh, you'd have to have a huge motion to take it out in the "down" motion. That's a lot of work for concealed carry.

Might be good for Spetsnaz who spend, probably, several weeks or even months training how to properly use it. But for someone like you, who's not going to go through an intense training program, it's probably better to stick to something a little more conventional.

A big thumbs up on this. I don't know why someone would carry a paperweight (because that's what a gun with no rounds ready to fire is) on their person. If you're going to carry a paperweight, at least keep it in your purse.

It almost looks like a man purse. If you used the shoulder carry option, it could pass as a murse for sure.

Man purse! OMG. Please, take off your gun before you talk like that!

I generally use a flat hip holster (sometimes called a "pancake") and cover it with an untucked shirt to carry most concealed handguns and will sometimes drop a S&W Centennial hammerless revolver in a coat pocket without holster. I gave up on shoulder rigs, never felt comfortable.

I had a really nice shoulder rig for my Desert Eagle. It was awesome... but way too much gun for concealed carry!

I used a custom-molded kydex holster tucked inside my waistband for my 1911. I hardly ever tuck in my shirt so it was never a problem. On events where I needed to tuck in, I was always prohibited from carrying anyway.

I almost bought a LCR to keep in a pocket but never got around to it. What's really weird is I'm a semiauto guy all the way, but to me, anything smaller than a .45, and I want a revovler. I had a .380 and for some reason, I just couldn't trust my life to it. (Maybe that's cause it was a Lorcin!) Better than nothing, sure, but if I really need to use a gun to save my life, I want .38+P minimum.

Ah... I could talk carry guns all day long!
