Al-Qaeda magazine urges killing of those who defame Mohammed

An English-language Al-Qaeda magazine in its first issue ran an article it said was penned by US-born Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki calling for the execution of anyone who defames the Prophet Mohammed.

"The proper solution to this growing campaign of defamation" of the prophet is "the execution of those involved," reads the article in web magazine "Inspire," in a text provided by the US monitoring service SITE on Sunday.

The article singles out Seattle-based cartoonist Molly Norris, who satirically proposed to make May 20 an "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day," although Islam bans the depiction of any prophet as blasphemous.

"A cartoonist out of Seattle, Washington, named Molly Norris started the 'Everyone Draw Mohammed Day,'" the article attributed to the radical Yemeni cleric says.

"She should be taken as a prime target of assassination, along with others who participated in her campaign.

"The large number of participants makes it easier for us because there are many targets to choose from," reads the article in the magazine of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP.

The killings should not, however, be limited to "Draw Mohammed" participants, the article says.

"Because (participants) are practising a 'right' that is defended by the law, they have the backing of the entire Western political system. This would make... attacking any Western target legal from an Islamic viewpoint."

"We will fight" to defend Mohammed, the article says. "We will instigate, we will bomb, and we will assassinate, and may our mothers be bereaved of us if we do not rise in his defence."

SITE said the magazine was released by Al-Fajr Media Centre, an Internet distribution network for extremist groups.

The release "comes amongst several communiques posted by Al-Fajr for AQAP, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), and the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI), indicating that it is an authentic publication," SITE said.

Awlaki, now based in Yemen, rose to prominence last year after it emerged he had communicated by email with Major Nidal Hasan, a US army psychiatrist accused of opening fire on colleagues at Fort Hood, Texas, killing 13.

The imam has also been linked to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian student accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound flight with explosives in his underwear on December 25.

A US official said in April that President Barack Obama's administration had authorised the targeted killing of Awlaki, after American intelligence agencies concluded the cleric was directly involved in anti-US plots.

This is absolute BS. Major Nadal acted on his own and his killing spree, preceeded by the same shouts of jihadi video stars everywhere, had nothing to do with this crazy cleric.

But, we'll probably see this as an excuse to help Saudi Arabia increase their border security or something. We wouldn't want guys like this being physically present in another country. We've gotta keep 'em in Yemen where they can't do anything.

I think these extremists say this sh!t just to irritate those who react to it. BTW, Islam actually does not forbid the depicting of prophets; Muslim artists have depicted Muhammad many times over the centuries. Jesus is a venerated prophet of Islam, as are Abraham, Moses, even Adam, but extremists don't seem to get incensed over their depictions. I guess they're picky that way.

They're like the folks who post here on VJ. If it serves their agenda, they'll get all fired up over it. Yet if it doesn't... all you hear is crickets!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

It was well known that Mohammed had thin skin and never learned the phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me."

His followers are following the tradition.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

They're Al-Qaeda. It would be news if they didn't urge killing of those who defame Mohammed.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Couldn't that be said about anyone? People generally only post when they're actually interested in the topic.

You always post in threads about guns, for instance.

On the OP - noone is really surprised by the views of these extremists. Are they?
