Hope you're able to get in touch with your mom soon, Nevada

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yep the town of Midland has called a state of emergency. I am happy I got a hold of my mom. She is all excited saying: "I felt an earthquake and a tornado all in one day!"

Looks I get to go home to a real mess. Just glad everyone is okay!

Wow - that is some wicked weather - Tornado watches from Peterborough to Lindsay to Kingston in the East and Windsor/Chatham-Kent/Leamington in the West as well as the Midland area. Mother Earth seems to be objecting to something in Ontario!

My Dad called me today to let me know about it. He works in downtown Ottawa. His building was evacuated. My sister works at a school and though the kids told her it was definitely an earthquake, she told them to settle down as she thought it was just some construction outside. Ha!

It was only a 5.0 not a 5.5. I wrote the Toronto Star to mention that to them with the link to the USGS site and they immediatly changed it to 5.0. Unfortunatly all the other newspaper and even CNN had it still inaccuratly listed as a 5.5.

There's a decent fault line and think it's part of the whole Ohio Fault there. My mother remembers a few earthquakes when she was a kid in Guelph and I remember one in Waterloo when I was in 10th grade in the 80's as well. Never anything massive, but enough to shake things off shelves etc. It happens every few decades or so, so this one was kind of bound to happen...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Hi Everyone,

We're in NYS (not too far from Buffalo, NY and the Canadian border)....

But we didn't feel anything in our neck of the woods....

Lol..Perhaps we have too many woods and mountains around us to feel the earthquake....

We did though have a few tornado watches, and heard the rain and wind storms last night.....

I found out aboout the earthquake afterwards, on the news....It was the big story of the day/evening....

They even showed some UTube clips from people who were videotaping during the quake too....Anyone see those videos?

The last time I felt an earthquake was in TO, about 10 years ago or so...Anyone else remeber that minor quake?

But yeah, major earthquakes are scary, regardless.....

And I hope that everyone is alright after such disasters....

Odd though, that earthquakes would happen in Canada and in this part of the USA...Anything can happen, I suppose...

Lol..Snowstorms, Tornados, and now Earthquakes....Oh my!

What will mother nature think of next?

I've seen comments from 1 friend who said her little kids were crying and upset and it was really traumatic and then about 10 friends who barely noticed anything - and they're all in the same area - Southern ON. Must depend on the person...but frankly I think some folks have made a bigger deal about it then it really was...at least where they live.
