Hello everyone

My father in law is going to be my joint sponsor. He is a self-employed person. Can we use just the sole bank balance for qualifying ? than showing anything else or is it essential to show everything mentioned to send with the I864A form.

If he can show 5 times 125% of the poverty guidelines in assets, for his household size, that should be fine.

Different consulates look at the affidavit of support differently though. Sometimes they want to see a bigger picture. It would probably be to your advantage if you can bring some proof of income.

Regardless - he must provide, at least, his tax return for last year.

My FIL just showed one of his bank accounts with more than the funds necessary in it and it was fine.

Is this true even if the most recent year's tax return doesn't show the necessary level of income? I mean if someone is NOW in a job making more than enough money, but wasn't for all or most of 2009? Can I ask, is this something you have direct experience with?
