ok so i know for sure that my husband will b interviewed sometimes in july. just curious that what's a good sign after u're interviewed??? if they give back originals/take the passport and ask u to come back to pick or they'll mail the passport...???

i mean i'm worried that that Islamabad embassy will put my hubby in AP but i guess they'll say the actual word "administrative processing" to him after the interview if he's required to go under this process.

how do they even determine a person needs to go through AP??? my husband is doing his MSc and has no criminal record, and doing a teaching job.

I suggest you read reviews left by people who were interviewed at the embassy in Islamabad to get some idea how it works. They normally Do not let people come back to the embassy to pick up the passport and they use American Express for delivery. As for signs... in my case, at the time of the interview my passport was returned to me along with the original documents we had submitted plus with a token and sticker on the back of my passport and a letter stating my case would undergo AP. I was assured by the CO that I should hear from them within 2 months and alhumdulillaah I did. I am a female and my husband was born in the US. For other people, especially men, it seems being forwarded to AP is common and that flags can be raised for no apparent reason such as a common first and last name etc. So each case is unique and it is not easy to predict how your case would go. In any case, keep an open mind and hope for the best but be prepared for delays. If your husband has traveled outside Pakistan before, ask him to take along all old or expired passports. The easier we make their work, the quicker this process will be over. I remember the consular officer noted down all my previous passports' numbers. So go prepared, take along all possible documents and photos so nothing is left behind and be prepared for AP in any case. All the best.

I have a good method to suggest to you - to find out about AP on interview day -

Once the interview is completed - your spouse should ask the ConOff - (this takes 1 to 2 additional minutes, btw)

1. Do you have everything you need to finish my visa application? If not, ASK ME NOW - I have it here, in my carry pack.

2. Will you complete my visa application today?

3. Will my visa application be placed into additional processing? If so, why? Do you need any documents from ME? ASK ME NOW - I have it here, in my carry pack.

4. When can I expect you to mail my visa packet to me? Any problems with the visa stamp printer?

I suggest this to folk going to Guangzhou, as the VOs are notorious there for NOT mentioning about 'additional processing'. Sure, they are good on issuing 221g's, 'Blue Slips' (local GUZ vernacular), but for AP without notice? Fuggitaboutit - Half of those AP cases get the notice via postal mail (when the visa applicant was expecting the visa packet, instead) and the other half got no notice at all - the petitioner (USC) had to call DOS hotline to find out.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

i think the interviewer would make it obvious at the end if my hubby needs additional AP but i'll have him ssk them questions at the end of interview just to be certain.

what is DOS and where can i get the number. what info would they have on the case in future?

Dos # in my profile.

Department of State Hotline - the humans that answer the phone 'see' MOST of the stuff that the ConOff at an Embassy/Consulate sees, with exception on ConOff Casefile notes. They share data on some computer network - so these TelepOperators see status on the casefile / visa application.

Once the casefile leaves NVC, DOS Hotline knows all status on the casefile.
