I am a US citizen and my girlfriend is an Canadian citizen. We are intending to be married. But she will be in the states on a student visa this fall and we intend to be married by may of 2011. is there a different process that we should follow?

Is she your girlfriend or your fiance? There is a difference. If she is your fiance you should get into the habit of calling her that now. If she is not, you should propose if you intend on getting married ;).

NVC Forwarded Petition to London- 5-6-10

NVC Letter Received: 5-7-1010

London Received Packet: 5-14-10

London Mailed Packet to Rob: 5-18-10

Packet 3 Received by Rob: 5-22-2010

Packet 3 paperwork mailed to Rob 6-12-10

Medical- July 8, 2010

Everything mailed to Embassy 7-19-10

Interview Date: 9-14-10- Approved pending non-machine washed replacement passport.

If she's already going to be here on a student visa, then a K1 or CR1 is likely not the best course of action.

She'll need to find out the rules around her visa type for sure, but you should be able to marry and then adjust her status to that of a US permanent resident. But again, does depend on the type of visa she'll be here on so research it further - or have a one time consultation with an immigration attorney - most will do those for little to no money.
