People who try to make sports part of partisan politics are retarded, so I wouldn't listen to them anyway........besides, 24 million people in the US watched the World Cup final, compared to 1.5 million who watched Glen Beck that week

Admittedly I have not read this thread, so I can't comment too much, however there is not even a comparison, between officially the biggest sporting event in the world, and the biggest domestic game in America.

I guess the only reason the superbowl is so big is that it is the only final in America which is decided on a one off game?

For me the World Cup trumps Superbowl anyday. But I respect those tens of millions, if not more, in the US who love NFL football or college football.

I have to say that in my 12.5 years of living in the US, nobody has ever tried to force me to watch American football, or to take an interest in it. And I have some really hardcore friends and cousins. So I find myself cringing when people talk about how to make soccer more popular in the US, and how to get people to watch it.

Who cares? As long as those who are interested in soccer get their games on TV, why should they be so concerned about making soccer fans out of others?

I play in casual pick-up soccer games all the time and more than half of the people are American-born football and basketball loving folks who happen to like soccer too. Perhaps they had a military posting in Europe, or they traveled to soccer-loving countries and picked up the game. Or they played in school here. That's how it should be.

So, basically why compare World Cup to Superbowl? I know what I like, and I appreciate that there are others who would like something else!

Let's just celebrate our right to choose and follow what we like!
