Ryan and I are having a court marriage, not sure who will witness it yet. We would like to have a BIG wedding on our one year anniversary. It will give us a chance to save money, invite everyone, and have the "dream wedding" I have always wanted.

Wish you both all the best on your wedding plan (F)

We had our civil & church wedding in Phils. in 2002 but other side of our family & friends wasn't there (husband side) and they've been complaining a lot about it for not being able to attend  we had our second church wedding here on our 2nd year anniversary and the're all satisfied being able to witness us personally  everything went great as planned!

I wanted a big wedding the first time around with EVERYONE there, but it's not possible. I guess we can't have ALL the happiness, eh? So, I will settle for having my future hubby over having a big wedding. That's the most important part anyway, right? Besides, can't have a wedding without a hubby to wed. LOL! :P

Court marriage. I'm going to a strange place with people I've never met before, Charles is from Texas, not Kansas so he has no family there, why spend money on a big wedding for strangers (all strangers for me) and a few of Charles friends? Doesn't seem right.

We'll have a court wedding with a few of his close friends and we talked about in the future, after I'm established there, and I have made friends of my own, and maybe he can get some of his relatives coming from Texas, maybe even I can get some of my relatives coming from Brazil, we can renew our vows, with a nice celebration.

I never really cared about a big wedding, spend thousands on flowers, food, drinks, maybe because I'm cheap :P , but really, I don't see the point. All I'd like would be marry Charles, have a nice cake and a beautiful wedding dress (even if nobody sees it, I'll still have pictures to show our kids and grandkids)

Jury is still out for us on this one. It depends when his best man can get here for a wedding. If its 2 weeks after my fiance arrives, fine. But if its more like 2 months, we will just do something at the court so that we can get the AOS/EAD and AP going.

I would prefer to 'really' be married at our wedding, but if its just not logical to wait that long, we'll do what we have to. He has an elderly mother so neither of us like the idea of him going too long without AP.

But luckily, a very good friend of mine is an assistant district attorney and she will witness for us :) if we end up doing the courthouse thang. At least we can have someone that I love (besides my fiance!) witness the court ceremony. :):D

Church wedding, reception and all. I began planning in June. Key to planning a wedding in four months: DON'T GET PICKY and leave the details to the pros. I want a centerpiece for the head table - you figure it out. I need linens for 10 tables and i want these colors - how would you suggest we do it? Make them earn that cash :D

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

See PCRADDY for our official timeline.

Paul and I will be married at his cousin's place... there will be about 70 people from his side... my parents, brother, nephew, sis-in-law, and a number of my friends plan to be there... one of my oldest friends (who I have not seen since I was 17) plans on being there with her son; she will fly in from Germany; other friends will fly from Old Blighty... so I would say we would have at least 100 people at the wedding. I can't wait (L)

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT

The poll doesn't cover all the option. In many parts of Asia the legal part (certificate) is completely separate from any ceremony. In Thailand to be legal you just go to a local district office (amphur) sign some papers and they give you a (actually 2) certificate. There is absolutely no ceremony or even requirement for witnesses.

On the other hand, you can have a ceremony that is socially binding but has no legal standing.

Once knew a (Chinese) girl in Singapore that was legally married for several years and never did have the ceremony or live with her husband before she got divorced. The families would have been scandalized if they had lived together without the ceremony.
