GST Tax Refund for Visitor to Canada

My sister is visiting me in Ontario Canada, and came from England. She wanted to know if she would be able to claim the GST taxes she paid here on her taxes in England. Does anyone know anything about claiming this sort of thing?

I have never heard of anyone claiming a GST refund on a foreign tax return - she should contact her tax department for information on that.

She may be thinking about a program they used to have here (until 2007) where consumers could apply to the Canadian government to have the G.S.T. they paid on purchases refunded?

There use to be a program that non-residents could apply to Canada for the refund of GST paid on goods they were exporting from the country or accomadations and trip packages. That program has been discontinued. The only GST refunds available for non residents are for commercial goods export out of the country.
