I don't think it will affect your marriage. In my case I tried to apply for SSN in my state but they won't give me one till I have a working permit. So till now I don't have ssn unless ill have the working permit already. Just try to apply in your social security office maybe their not so strict. No harm in trying. :)

It will only be a problem if you don't have SSN then you apply for joint bank account, insurances or drivers license and they require the SSN.

No - it shouldn't.

It may mean you will have to wait for the EAD or GC to get the SSN - if your last name changed do to marriage.

SSA and the USCIS will have different names for you (if you changed) so you will have to get that taken care of.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Hi,

I got married here in MS without any SSN..You dont have to worry about it too much...However most people here says that its better to get an SSN after 2 weeks of your arrival...There are some states that require for an SSN so you really need to have it before you can get your marriage license but since CA. didnt require it ( as you got married already), so it means you are good to go....Hey, is your I-94 not expired yet? If you have atleast 14 days remaining before expiration, then you can apply for an SSN but if its expired already, you have to wait for your EAD ( the docs you filed along with your AOS).

If you are ready to apply for an SSN, just go to your local SSA office and bring with you the following (that was asked from me): Bring the original....

passport with your K1 visa & unexpired I-94,

EAD ( thats if your I-94 is expired already)

marriage certificate and birth certificate

EAD is Employment Authorization Document (form I-765). You will need this card before you can legally work. You can apply for the EAD along with the green card, and Advance Parole (AP) as the cost were included in the AOS price increase in 2007.

No, you do not need the SSN to apply for the green card.

You are married. It has no affect on marriage or AOS. get it as soon as possible. You will need it for other things. Stop crying.

Apply for the SSN in your maiden name, exactly as in your passport.
