Letter of Certification for translations

hey guys, Iam trying to figure out if I would need to get our marriage certificate translated again. We had it translated by a sworn translator in lebanon and legalized by foreign affairs. But I didnt know that the translator needed to write a statement of certification.....So do I need to have it re-translated since the translator didnt fill out the letter of certification? THANKS!

In the instructions to the DS-230 (that you will have to fill out later on in the process of filing for a CR-1) it says:

The translations must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

- Translation is accurate and

- Translator is competent to translate.

So I would assume that also holds true for your case. I am pretty sure that you will have to

get it translated again.

Of course sworn translators count.

But as I understand it every translated document needs to have some kind of variation of the following text on it:

In my capacity as a public translator for the English language, duly commissioned and sworn by the President

of the Regional Court of ********** , I hereby confirm that the foregoing is a true and

complete translation of the German document submitted to me in the original.

stamped and signed by the translator.

Of course that will look different for different countries and translators. If something like that is on the translation of your

marriage certificate, you should be fine.

This sucks...we went through all the trouble of getting it notiarized and legalized by the government.

Is there something on your translation that makes it clear, that this was done by a sworn translator and that he confirms that it is a true and complete translation?

If not, then there is no use for a sworn translator, since anybody could have done it. And I think that would be exactly the problem that the USCIS would have with it.
