Hi everyone,

I know some of these questions might have been discussed a lot,and I have also done some home-work but I actually got confused after reading too many posts on the same questions.Hence decided to ask mine anyway.

1) From what I have gathered is,the first major hurdle to clear is getting the NOA2 right? After that your file is sent to the NVC?Now will this be reflected against your case number on the website where you check for updates, that it has reached the NVC and also left it for your consulate?

2) Once it reaches the consulate(in my case Mumbai) will that also be reflected on that site?Or am I going to get the tracking number of the courier service they used to send it to Mumbai?

3)After all the packet 3 papers have been sent back and forth, they have my final documents with the checklist, once I track that that has been delivered, I can either wait for the consulate to send me an interview appointment date or can I call myself?

4)For the medical part,in India we do not have all records of all the shots I took as an infant, this is like 26 years back,I have taken all the necessary shots of course, but might not have proof for all.So what is the general process for such cases?

5)Once I get a interview date,I read in a couple of posts about how even your US fiancee should be present with you in person that day.Is this true?I thought all along,it is just me,and all his required docs?

I know it is a bother to answer probably the same questions all over, but I would appreciate the help a lot.

Thanks again!

Yes it's sent to NVC. The only way to check on its status is to call the NVC directly and speak to a real person as K1 visas are generally not entered into their automated system.

2) Once it reaches the consulate(in my case Mumbai) will that also be reflected on that site?Or am I going to get the tracking number of the courier service they used to send it to Mumbai?

Nope, but you can track it since NVC uses the DHL service which you can search on how to use in the US Embassy forum.

3)After all the packet 3 papers have been sent back and forth, they have my final documents with the checklist, once I track that that has been delivered, I can either wait for the consulate to send me an interview appointment date or can I call myself?

Every consulate is different in how they handle that; do a search on the regional forums for yours.

4)For the medical part,in India we do not have all records of all the shots I took as an infant, this is like 26 years back,I have taken all the necessary shots of course, but might not have proof for all.So what is the general process for such cases?

For London (and I'm assuming it's the same everywhere but could be wrong), all you had to have was the MMR and tetanus booster (or primary if you've never had it) if you don't have any records.

5)Once I get a interview date,I read in a couple of posts about how even your US fiancee should be present with you in person that day.Is this true?I thought all along,it is just me,and all his required docs?

Again, depends on the consulate and I'd thoroughly research the experiences of others going through YOUR consulate to make your own decision. I know that India is harder than others, but I've read here on VJ of people going through without having the significant other, whereas others like our poor Sara, has been waiting for 2.5 years + to get to the interview stage, got there, and is now in additional processing. Take some scrutiny of your application: some red flags may be disparity in age, different religions, quick engagement, multiple marriages, etc. I'd definitely recommend to "front-load" your application, which means that you put in a lot of evidence of your relationship showing that you guys have met along with pictures, e-mails, letters, etc.

Good luck and welcome to VJ :)

One piece of advice I'll add is to go to the regional forum and find out if there are any tips to expedite the time from when the embassy receives your case to when you have the interview.

For example, in my regional area, we've posted the forms in the packet you get from the embassy, so one can get started on those early, as some documents can take a while to obtain in Jamaica. We also found that since mail delivery is slow/unreliable, some of us have had luck by emailing the embassy a scanned copy of a signed DS-230pt1 before mailing them a hard copy, saving weeks in getting an interview date.
