Call 1st and see if SSN got your info. We had to go down to the office and apply, got the SSN in the mail 8 days later

did you check the box in DS230 about receiving one? Otherwise, you gotta go down their office.

Better check somebody might have stolen your mail... i don't know. identity theft is bad here.

We check the box but SSN told us they never got the info, so best to call and find out.

if you checked in your application that you want an SS number processed for you, then your card will arrive at your address in 2 weeks or less. if you didn't check that portion, you need to go your local ss office and apply for one. bring your passport and other IDs (ex copy of marriage cert if you want your SS card to show your married name)

Receiving a SSN on a CR-1/IR-1 is hit and miss.

Sure, you can check the box on the DS-230, but it really is hit or mis.

If you've been here 45 days already - suggest you go into the local SSA office, and apply.

But - here's the caveat. If they have no record of you in the database, stop.

Don't go through with the applicaiton that day. Come back a week later.

The various data systems used by DHS, CBP, USCIS, SSA, are NOT linked in real-time - things are updated in a batch process.

You could call SSA and inquire about your status , sure..

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
