Hi all

Unsure about this one. When flying to the States for the first time as a LPR do we have to fill out the APIS?

I seem to remember being told that this is unneccesary for a new immigrant.

Any suggestions anyone?

Best wishes to all and many thanks to the NVC for giving out so many early Christmas Presents!

Richard

If I am correct, for the first time coming in, you go to the immigration folks with your packet, you dont need that little form everyone else fills out. I believe thats all you do for your first entry here. Yours is special for the first time. For the next time you DO fill it out as a actual resident.

Thanks for your reply but I am referring to the online declararion one has to make through the airline website rather than the green temporary visa waiver form one fills out on board prior to landing.

Now to add confusion. I am told there is something called ESTA as well.

Any inspiration will help please!

ESTA is for the VWP, so the permanent residents need not be concerned with it. I am not sure what is the APIS. I do know that coming back to the US, the airline company verified the information that I have given to them during the reservation. If you are referring to the manifest that all airlines companies have to transmit prior to landing, yes the information is required. I remember our flight being delayed because there was an issue with the manifest (headcount was incorrect) and they were counting and counting till they got it right.

Hope this mumble jumble helps a bit. :)

Ah, I just realized that you will be coming as an IR-5. I am clueless then, I thought you just received your greencard and were wondering about your flight back to the US.

Hopefully, someone else will chime in with more insight.

Hi Ritchard

You need to give the airline your information via. APIS, For my parents it only asked for visa type or LPR number. Not sure what info your airline are going to need.

You do not need to complete the VWP (ESTA) or the I-94w, the only form you need to complete is the customs declaration card given out on the plane.
