Hi Everyone,

My fiance and his son arrived in the states on Friday. When they got to immigration, the immigration officer took their packets and kept everything except their passports and x-rays. I was wondering if we would get a copy of their immunization papers back, they were in the packets and no copies were made of them. His son will need them to enroll in school and we will need them for AOS. Should those have been give back to us at our POE in Miami, do they get sent back to you in the mail, or get placed into a permanent record somewhere? If anyone has more information, we'd love to know what needs to be done to get them back. Thanks!

We're set for 10 years!!

If they did keep the only copy of the vaccination list, you're in a tough spot. You can try calling USCIS and see if they've received a copy or not, but I doubt it. Your options are to get the vaccinations again or to call the original doctor who administered the vaccinations and ask them to fill out a new form.

No, they are not supposed to give you anything back from the envelope. The information becomes part of their permanent immigration file along with everything else in the package. The POE forwards the complete package to your local USCIS office so it can be matched up with your AOS when you file. The Panel Physician who prepares the medical overseas usually makes a copy of the vaccination worksheet and gives it to the applicant when they get the medical. If they didn't do that you don't really have access to what the vaccination sheet says. If the vaccinations were complete, it may be sufficient for AOS purposes. You will require a copy, however, for your step son to enter school.

What you can do is use the same information they gave to the Panel Physician to prove vaccination history and use that for the school requirements or have the Civil Surgeon in the US prepare the Vaccination component on the I-693 medical forms for both your husband and step-son. If either your step son or your husband need additional vaccinations, they can get them done here by your regular doctor or a health clinic or by the panel physician. If they don't have any evidence of vaccination history then they can get the blood titers done or redo the vaccinations. If they do have evidence and it is not in English, you will need to get it translated.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The doctor in Haiti did not give my fiance or his son any copy of the vaccination record. When my fiance went to his medical appointment, the doctor took their vaccination booklets and when he went to pick up the results, the doctor had sealed everything in the packet to take to the embassy. They have no record of their vaccinations. We're stuck.

This is almost identical to what happened to my wife (then fiance) when she came here on K-1 from Russia. The doctor who provided the exam was also the one who signed off on all of her vaccinations. All paperwork he provided was then placed in the sealed envelope (at the embassy) which was promptly taken when she entered the U.S. The end result being that she lost all evidence of vaccinations and had no way to get those records once she was in the U.S. We had to pay for her to get all new vaccinations.
