"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

And we all know where that thermometer really is. I thought it was a hard on some folks had for Al Gore but I'm starting to think its more like they're playing an Al Gore rusty trombone.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

They say that everyone who finally gets it about climate change has an "Oh, sh!t" moment

Okay, so let's just not get it and we shall be spared our "Oh, shi!t" moment.

There, problem solved.

The flat earthers of this country aren't about to let science ruin their ignorance.

Then after this one is "solved" there will be another oh $hit moment where the government gets to swell as a result.

What proof to you have that government expansion regulation is actually bad for the American people? As it stands, numerous companies have expanded unchecked and totally screwed your country and people like you, all in the name of a profit.

It was not the unions alone that killed GM, Ford and Chrysler. After all, they do have this thing called management.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

How many examples would you need? If personal freedom and government intrusion is of no importance to you, I can see how you can conclude that Gov Regulation is "good for people".

In the morning I will go for a Bike ride.... can you tell me by what right the Gov can tell me (an adult) to wear a helment?

Because it's good for me?

IF thats your answer, you make a "model citizen".

Let's say somehow I hit you in my car when you're on your bike. Fault isn't determined (or it's a no-fault state), but you sue me in order to get me to pay for your medical care. Why should I have to pay more simply because your injuries are aggravated due to the fact that you weren't wearing a helmet?

Your rights end where mine begin.

Thanks for pointing out EXACTLY WHERE THIS LOGIC LEADS.

Now would you support manditory helments in cars, think of the lives it would save... and after all that equates into lass dollars spent patching people up. Or perhaps full coverage to even ride a bike?

This is exactly how liberals seek to control every aspect of your life... as they claim "it's for your own good".

A bit blinded again? Seat belt, helmet and child safety seat laws, as well as restricting speed on roadways - another one of these dictatorship items - are not a liberal / conservative issue. If they were, then I'd say the conservatives have been beat some time ago. There aren't many, if any, states around where you don't have laws that dictate whether you are to wear a helmet on a motorbike, whether you have to wear a seat belt, what speed it is lawful to travel, etc.

Personally, I am no fan of these laws. I believe that these laws go against the natural selection of the fittest. When I see one of them morons here in FL riding his motorbikes wearing shorts and no helmet I take comfort in knowing the we're just one accident away of having one less moron around. No point in intervening in this natural selection process.

What Danno fails to understand is the concept of reasonability when it comes to public safety. Notice that he's not complaining about a 25 MPH speed limit in residential areas, 10 MPH in school zones during class times, or restricting licensing of liquor stores or adult shops from being within a certain distance from schools. Those "liberal" types of laws he doesn't notice or doesn't see as being related to seat belt or helmet laws. I'll look for the day when "liberal minded" Danno advocates that we lower the drinking age to 16 and legalize pot.

Are you two "trying to act stupid" or is it just a natural reflex?

Laws governing my actions... when those actions would likely cause harm to others are not what we are talking about. (Speeding, liability insurance).

I believe people should be able to decide if a helment is prudent or not... and the result of my actions effect no one but me (not even society as a by product ).

The State does bear some burden to protect children.

Do you really see Speed limits and forcing people to eat their veggies.... as the roll of Government?

How do you feel about having to strap yourself into your car?

ETA: If you decide that it's not prudent to wear a helmet when riding a motorbike, then you're clearly not capable of making that decision. ;)
