All seems like a moot point really. Go K-3 maybe get here sooner. Then have to wait for AOS and pay $1010 while the SO sits on the sofa for 4 months or more. I really have a hard time with anyone advocating a K-3 visa these days. Maybe there are good reasons, but I can't think of one. K-3 should be done away with IMHO.

Im not saying everyone needs to run out and file for k3.. Im just answering the OP's question about the time difference.

There are plenty of people on the "DONT FILE K3!!" squad to educate on the benefits of the CR1 :P

And I don't advocate abolishing the K3. I've actually indicated at least two cases described in this forum this month are examples of where the K3 is still useful. The cases involved Jordan, where the wait for a K3 visa appointment after the case file arrives is several months shorter than for a CR1 interview and another case where there was no immediate intent to become a permanent resident. Some Western Canada cases may also be good candidates. Canada is also an example where some with "eventual" immigrant intent need to make legal multiple entries for a while until they replace their Canadian jobs with jobs in the US. It keeps them from needing meet the permanent residency requirements.

The larger issue is that there's still lots of information on the internet describing K3 as a way to bring the foreign spouse to the USA while they await the processing of their immigrant visa and there are still lots of professionals out there that either don't understand it doesn't work that way anymore or they DO understand but want the additional fees they earn filing second petitions and AOS paperwork.

K3 is virtually obsolete because in the vast majority of cases, it no longer serves the purpose for which it was created. It (as a matter of routine) does NOT reunite families faster. It used to but not now.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I just saw that

That is why I always tell people to research their consulate to find out how they schedule each.

I dont disagree with this either

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

I'm curious. Since you can send in your I-129F the moment you receive the NOA1 from your I-130 back, aren't you only technically pushing it "WAY BACK TO THE END OF THE LINE" by only ten days to two weeks?

My I-129F was received @ CSC only 7 days after my I-130 was accepted and only 1 day after I received my NOA1 in the mail.

That kind of timeline is certainly possible but uncommon. It's more common for the receipt dates to be several weeks apart, sometimes months. A lot of it depends on the time of year etc. It took five weeks to get my NOA1 for the I-130. We see lots of people with delayed notices and lots who weren't as on the ball as you and I with a ready I-129F waiting to go in the mail the day the NOA1 comes in.

Yep, it was 3 weeks for us. Now, back then VSC was pushing K3's to the way back, to gather dust and termites :P

but now they are processing them along the same timeline as CR1's (posted 6 months).

My I-130 NOA1 and I-129F(K3) NOA 1 were 6 days apart. I received my NOA1 for I-129F 11 days after my NOA1 date for I-130. So basically it was pushed only 6 days back of line. This is in CSC and this was in October 2009. I made sure I mailed out my K3 application the same day I got my I-130NOA 1 without wasting any time.

Ya, ours went out 3 days after the 130 NOA1, our "3 weeks" is the NOA1 129f date, not the day we mailed it off.

yep, things have sped up alot this year...

Just an FYI - our NOA1 for our I129F was received today - only 8 days after after I received the NOA1 for the I-130...now hoping, praying for no RFE's, I don't expect any problems, as our paperwork and information was pretty extensive...I think they have just about everything barring a DNA swab...

Now sitting back and preparing for the LONG wait to NOA2...
