Question if anyone knows for sure:

I work for a Fortune 500 company and I am about to request a letter From my Employer Verifying Position, Title, and Salary for my I-134 Form. I can get a signed letter direclty from my Executive Director verifying all of the requested information. Is it necessary to go through a Human Resources Department for this letter? Does anyone know if a letter directly from my boss (ED) will be acceptable (Easy to get and quick)? Will this be returned unless it's obtained through the "Human Resources" department (Will take a longer period of time to obtain). Anyone know? Thanks! Best regards to all. Craig.

That was just going to be my next question on vj! I cant go directly through HR, ANDDDDD they dont keep business letterhead where I work... it would just have to be on plane paper! How do you suppose that will pan out for me?

I have seen other people ask this question and have received responses that the letter does not need to be from HR. I'm hoping this is accurate, since I am the head of our HR Department and can't write my own letter :) Mine will be from our General Manager and Vice President.

I've also been told that if you make well above the requirement that you don't need to submit the letter from employer, etc. Just the W2 and tax forms. I'm going to have the letter anyway, just to make sure I have my bases covered.

I just got company letterhead, wrote the letter myself, and got my boss to sign it. (He did verify it was accurate before he signed it) There is no official protocol or verification so it sort of seems meaningless. I would think tax returns/W-2s would be more valid.

I also did the letter on company letterhead and paper and had my boss sign it. No problems after that.

Letter from your boss is acceptable in company letterhead.

But what if the company does not have any letterhead?

Every company should have letterhead. If you are talking about a small company, then it's pretty simple to print out letterhead using Word and the company's logo & contact data.

Its not a small company. Its 'Best Buy'. They do not have letterhead at the store... its only at the main HR office. But I guess thats a thought... I could make my own letterhead u suppose. Whats important i imagine is just the signature and information. You think? I mean copy and past the company logo on paper....

Usually a company's logo is part of their 'branding' and should only be reproduced only according to specifications. Your manager should have access to company letterhead. You can type up the text of the letter, and ask management to print and sign. I would not make my own letterhead...

I went though the HR rep for my department. She had done similar letters before, so it wasn't any big deal. Also, our company letter head is actually a word template and she printed it in color (we are a big company too). I gave her the specifications required and had no issues.

Not every place of employment has a Human Resources Dept., so I would say that means that it does not have to be signed by HR. I'm guessing the letterhead would hold more weight...

There is no way to determine if the letterhead was supplied by the company or simply created by the employee on a word processor. In other words, the signature at the bottom and the relevance of the person signing the document is most important, as this ties the document to an actual person of authority at the company.

For confidentiality, I went through my HR Dept and the lady also added her business card in case the embassy has any questions. All the best!
