The National Geographic channel had a show on the other night about two guys going to Russia to meet and hopefully marry the women they had been writing to. I know that it is schedule to re-air on the 13th about 2:00 Pacific time.

Overall it was a pretty fairly balanced discussion, but of course there was some clips from that one group that is sure that many men are heading to Eastern Europe to find the beautiful, young and submissive women that are everywhere. I don't know where they get this submissive stuff from, but as far as I can tell, that doesn't apply to Eastern European women. At least not generally although I'm sure there are some. And, of course, they had to give the example of this guy in Washington state that ended up murdering his Russian bride. That was pretty awful, but then how many women from this country are brutilized by their significant other. I'm not trying to make light of it, but this kind of stuff happens everywhere, not just to foreign brides. The show is by far one of the most honest depictions of the process although I didn't see much about the agonizing delays that both parties go through waiting for the USCIS.

If you know someone that get the National Geographic channel, you might ask them to tape it for you. Both my wife and I found a few places that made us laugh and you probably will too.

I'm still trying to figure out that mail order stuff. I've seen catalogs but I have yet to see the price, cost of shipping, export/import fees, etc. Can you order one parcel post or do they all have to come air mail?

Typical American misconception of Slavic women and misunderstanding of their beliefs. Just because they take pleasure in having a family and a husband to care for them and they give their husband good care, because they expect the same from him, they are seen as submissive. Preposterous. In general they are highly educated and very independent given the opportunity. Yes, they may seem "dependant" when they arrive here, especially if they have little ability with English, but you would be the same if transplanted to their country. Believe me, I lived there and was lost for a while until I figured things out, and I didn't have to learn to drive!!!!!!! I would never say my wife is in any way "submissive" (OMG NO!!!!) BUT she is beautiful, I won't argue that. And Alla does give her all to me and the children and still finds to time for school and studies. I have never seen anyone work so hard to assimilate and learn the ropes of her new country as Alla has, no grass grows under THAT girl's feet! They are, in my experience, very strong, determined women. They are NOT feminists. They do NOt wish to look like, act like or be like men. Thank you God! If you ask me they have not surrendered the power women inherently have by trying to act and look like men. Vive la difference!

Any man going there to find a submissive wife, or mistaking their belief in traditional family roles and values as "submissive" will be sorely disappointed. If that is your goal...look elsewhere, they are NOT in the FSU!!!!!

Anyway, Nadiya and I were watching the documentary this past Thursday and it was pretty intersting and worth watching it though (except for the parts we missed because little Yan kept saying "uh-oh" in the bathtube - usually a sound of trouble :bonk::rofl: )

Submissive. LOL. I was having a problem with deliveries on a project from a manufacturer. I mentioned this in our dinner conversation and Alla was concerned as this could affect my BONUS!!! She says "where is this factory?" It is in Vermont. "Oh, close" she says "Not far avay like Pennsylvania or something" (she likes the name "Pennsylvania" ) "So" she says, "I am from Oooookraine, I veel tell you how to feex zees problem". "You GO to zees factory and find a deerektor, ANY deerektor. You SHOOT zees deerektor, and zen ALL OTHER deerektors veel do vhat you say!" Yep, thats a submissive woman from the former Soviet Union. I never forget to take out the trash!

Thanks all for making my point. My wife laughs everytime she hears someone reference the women from Eastern Europe, especially FSU, as submissive.

I agree whole heartedly that being a traditional woman with the desire to have a happy household where the family is cared for by the woman is anything but submissive. I know that my small community continues to grow with more men bringing the loving, caring and altogether desirable women from FSU countries. As more men here learn of our situation, I think the tide will begin to grow.

I know that it would be an extremely hard choice to move to another country that doesn't speak your native language to be with someone you love, who loves you too. There is too much BS about they just want to come to America. It's like this, "What you don't believe that someone would move here, just because they love me?"

generalizing any group of people is stupid. all women from anywhere cannot be one way, regardless of culture. i fit the description of many of your "traditional, desirable, strong, independent, beautiful, family-oriented", etc. FSU ladies and i've never been to an FSU country. in addition, my FSU man does not fit the stereotype of his region. stereotypes suck. nobody likes to be put into a category- and i know all you guys do not like to be stereotyped.
