Had the interview in Montreal... need some help

I had my interview in Montreal on July 27, 2009. It went well and the gentleman that interviewed me was cool. What caused a problem was my admission of the fact that I had an incident at the border about seven years ago. I was barred from entering the country for one year following that incident. He asked me a few other questions about how my fiancee and I met (she was with me in the interview room). He asked her directly (very pleasantly) what she did for a living. That was all easy and straight forward.

Towards the end of the interview he told me he was trying to access the details of this incident at the border but the system was "slow". He told me to go outside and wait for half an hour or so. I waited for at least 2. He finally called me back in and explained that the system was down and he could not get the details. He mentioned that I was not the only person affected by this problem that day. He told me that once he accessed the system, he would either mail me my visa or send my a letter requesting more information. I told him I was going to Quebec City that evening and returning to the Montreal area the next day before heading back home to Toronto, and asked if it would be sorted out by then. He told me he couldn't predict that, enjoy Quebec City because he was just there the weekend before with his wife, and the consulate will contact me as soon as the problem is fixed.

Have you heard of this ever happening before?

Did you explain the reason for your denial years ago? I'm sure they just have to verify your information, to ensure it wasn't something serious like drug related, etc. Once the info is verified, I bet you'll have your visa, don't worry :)

I too was banned from the US for a year and I to included that info when I filed.. the only thing they asked me about that incident was if I had any other incidents like that and I replied with no.. I am assuming they pulled up the info on the computer...

I wouldn't worry too much about it...

I have heard that it is very common for MTL consulate computers to have issues with " going down " and being slow as well as the computers not functioning, Just hang tight! good luck

Sorry you're having to wait this out. The more we rely on computers, and they break down, the more times things like this happen. I'm sure they just wanted to verify the information. Hope you hear something soon!

Montreal computers suck! I wasted an extra 1.5 hours in there, waiting for computers to cone back up to make my payment and fingerprint. What are they still operating on, an old DOS system?

Hang in there! I'm sure you'll be fine :)

a few days ago they emailed me saying that they were having issues printing interview letters, mine came with no date or time on it, recently they said they fixed that issue so im not sure what else issues they could be having unless its major computer issues? or file system issues, which sort of pops up when they say they still havent fixed it.. also today was a holiday too.

Did you tell them the wedding was in 3 weeks when you first emailed them about it? If not then maybe another email would be good and stress the fact that you are marrying in 3 weeks and everything is planned for the wedding things payed peoples tickets bought etc etc, it might force them to do something if they are just shuffling their feet and saying its not fixed yet.

I've emailed the consulate and they told me the problem is not fixed yet but will notify me when it is. It's been a week, should e-mail again? My wedding is in about 3 weeks!!!

Email them every day! Put urgent on the subject line with your Case #. You really shouldn't be making or booking wedding plans without having had a visa anyway. But yes, as Inky says, if you put that in there, maybe someone will make sure yours if the first that's printed out.

The beauty of Mtl--u never know how fats they are going to process this!!! Yes I would send them a polite email explaining the situation, especially about the wedding, but like what others have stated, they may not give care, but they might, lol. best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
