Driving husband's car into Canada, Do-able?

I have a final exam back up in Vancouver I need to get to on August 10th. If I was able to get a proctor in Seattle, believe me I would. And I will do that in the future.

My husband will be in Vietnam/Cambodia until August 20th (meeting his grandparents for the first time), and is willing to let me take the car up to Vancouver for the day to write my exam and come back. The car & insurance is under his name, and the plates are of course from our state (WA).

He wasn't the problem. I am worried about Canada & US customs.

I'm wondering if I would be able to take my car up for that day, and if so, what kind of documentation I would need. If not, would it be best for me to just get a rental for that day?

Also, if any of you have done this before, please share your experiences.

I don't know why it would be a problem at all. You're married. Are both your names not on the registration? What about insurance card? Surely they'd both be on that card as you're both driving it. If you're really worried about that, you might want to contact your insurer and have them process a new card with both your names on it.

But if you're driving up to write a test, present your documentation, I highly doubt they're going to ask you who's card you're driving and if they can see who owns it, or who is on the insurance.

I've driven to Canada with our vehicle, and they never looked at anything. Nor asked anything. We do however have an insurance card from State Farm that has both our names on it.

We drove through Blaine and they didn't check the registration, licensing, anything on our car

If customs asks who's vehicle it is (As they have asked me that before) just say your husband's, I'm sure it won't be a problem at all!

Phew! Thanks so much, everyone. The tips do help a lot. I had a gut feeling it wouldn't be a problem, but just wanted to make sure. You know how nit-picky immigration-related situations can be

Unfortunately, my name currently is NOT on his insurance nor registration. Until this past Friday, I had my own car.

Does that change the responses at all? We have plenty of mail with both of our names on this address, including mail from USCIS.

If your name is not on it, I would carry the marriage certificated in case the name doesn't match, then you can that's your husband, and if any doubt you can show them your marriage certificate. I've drove countless of times to Montreal, I've never been ask to registration or insurance info, in the old days, I used to show just my driver's license since i didn't need a passport back then, but for the past few trips i only had to show my passport.

I've driven hubby's car multiple times over the border, the CDNS always ask where it's registered to but never who owns it. Technically he is the owner, but we are both insured on it.
