Yes, your SO must wait. Your SO MUST have either a greencard or AP document to re-enter the US. If you leave without one of these two, you will be starting over and apply for a spousal visa (K1 or CR-1/IR-1). Simiply having filled for AOS does not allow your SO to re-enter the US.

If you filed for AP with AOS, is there a chance you will get an AP document before temp. green card. I heard that getting a green card can be a very long process. We are hoping to travel with our family at Christmas, so I am hoping we will get AP before than.

How long after you are married and have filed for adjustment of status does your SO have to wait in order to travel out of the country? I am confused by all that I have read regarding this.
