What constitutes the "best" heath care? What is the criteria we are dealing with?

Um...infant mortality rates? Life expectancy? Cost per capita?

Pfffft!

Fluffy hippie speak.

Yup. As long as the metrics don't take into account saving the right people versus the wrong people, they're meaningless. No two people are equally deserving of the hypothetical health care dollar.

Exactly. For those who can afford it, they get the best health care...as it should be. Let the rest eat cake.

I've never had bad cake. But then again, I'm a fat muthafucka.

I've eaten cake that's all dried up from being in the fridge for several days, but I see your point. The riff raff won't know the difference.

What they should say is that if you can afford it - it's the best.

If you can't - you are fvcked.

Most people in the US have health insurance

Wait times to make an appointment? That's only in Canada, didn't you know? :innocent:

not sure where you 2 live but I have always been able to see a doctor that day when I needed, clinic. The only time I really have had to wait is for dental appointments.

Most people in the US have health insurance

What was it at last count - 40% of Americans are uninsured?

Anyways - being insured doesn't mean a whole lot in the great scheme of things.

If (like me) you went to see a specialist to have a blood vessel in the nose cauterised (basically the guy puts some lidocaine in your nose, then cauterises it with silver nitrate - in practical terms, having a stick jammed up your nose) you've already paid $25 to see the GP to give you the permission slip to see the specialist, pay that guy a $40 copay and then find a nice bill for $260 in the mail a few months later.

#######!?

The US has a generally higher cost of living than I had back in the UK - even with the higher taxes. Everything costs more - from healthcare to a cable TV subscription. People at home bitched about having to pay an annual license fee so you could watch TV... I expect people would go through the roof if they had to pay an equivalent amount per month...
