Name Change in New Jersey

My wife and I were married on June 27th of this year, she has been in the country about 45 days. We recieved certified copies of our marriage certificate and are preparing to submit the AOS, AP, EAD forms. She already has a SS card from when she was an Au Pair.

My question is about her last name. We both want her to take my last name. I've read some things saying that the marriage certificate is legal proof of a name change even if it does not list her as having my name (which it does not...list only her maiden name). Do I file all the documents listing her last name as my last name, use her maiden name for all the forms, or use her first/my last and put her maiden name in the "other names" box?

Or should we try to go to a SS office and get a new SS card before we file any forms?

If someone can give me a little guidance I would appreciate it.

Hi,

Write the name that you guys want her to have on the forms for AOS.

After she gets the work permit go to Sosial Security and change name on social security card ( background checks and so on need to have name correspond to SSN)

That is what you need to do, the immigration service takes care of this
