I thought it would be as simple as just lusting it hyphenated on the forms...hmmm...maybe I'll ask on the main forum :) it's scary out there, but I'll do it :( haha!

Well...I officially filed my AOS today...and man, was it A LOT of work!!!!!

It was complicated by two things...my change of address and filing duplicate for my son's K2.... Having to figure out what copies went where...etc....

I also attached a copy of the change of address forms to my AOS as an FYI to them and then mailed everything to all the right places...I hope :(

you start to double guess yourself...it could drive you nuts!!!! I figured, I gave it my best shot...worst case, if something comes back to me...I respond to the RFE....I'm not sweating it, cause this time around, we are actually together.

I hope I filed all of my sons stuff right, I even filed an EAD for him in hopes that I can then get him an SSN sooner? Worst case, they don't approve it...no biggie...

I'm also gonna try to change our address on line and Aldo call in to verify.

I ended up hyphenatingy name on everything...hope that flies too lol....

I get paranoid that they will get lost in the mail lol!

How long are people waiting for an NOA?

I kissed my package Bon voyage and can only hope for the best :))))

Timeline

I found the whole AOS filing to be a big pain. Congrats on filing it so quickly. It took me about 2 months to get it done. Well, one month and three weeks of procrastinating and one week to actually do it. It's not so much that it's hard, but it's confusing and there's so much darn paper!

I think NOAs come pretty fast as do biometrics. The thing you wait for is approval. Make sure you head over to the AOS case status forum and see how timelines are going for other people who filed in July. I found that to be really helpful.

You're on your way! Yay!

Timeline

Yay its all done!

My timeline has been pretty quick. I sent my AOS on June 23rd, they received it June 26th, my NOAs are dated June 30 and they cashed our cheque on July 2nd.

It took a good 7-10 days to get anything back in the mail. Not slow, not fast. I got my Biometrics appointment letter soon after for August 4th. Current timelines show that the biometrics comes about 1 month after the NOAs. And some people are getting their EAD only a couple weeks after that. And then AP shortly after that. Then those that require a greencard interview are getting them about 4 months after their AOS is filed... which is not bad at all! Hopefully it doesn't slow down... so far it hasn't.

I agree...the AOS forms are tons of paper and confusion! Especially filing for two of us, and little differences between myself and filing for a child...

I'll go check out the timelines...

Does anyone know, if you get an interview, does it give u enough time to collect proof?

Yes.... I'd say most interviews I've seen (based on the Dec. filers thread) get at LEAST a months notice for an interview.... often more

congrats on your wedding!!! I've been in Edmonton for the past few days...what fun!! I loved it! Hope everything gets organized for your AOS. We'll look into the types of forms and things we need to do when I move, as I'll be there a month before the wedding, but then we're doing a 2 1/2 week road trip or so for our honeymoon, so we won't finish and send it of till the beginning of October sometime, but I'm sure we'll be in the "safe" zone as it shouldn't be past the 90 day mark, and they'll see when we got married, and when we adjusted status...

I haven't even really familiarized myself with the forms much, but I just read here...more pictures?? ugh...lol. They make you look so....criminally....

I just rec'd confirmation today that my AOS was rec'd.

The wait begins!

I have a question for some more experienced VJ'rs...

I updatey timeline, but I also physically keep a log in my signature, as many do. It's telling me my signature is too long...yet I have seen others with a lust 10x longer.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Is it based on characters? If so, then you might want to delete those stars at the beginning and also any unnecessary spaces or words.

oh it seems to be a lot of work but i want to file AOS so bad now!! we'll be the last ones and all of my canadians VJers friends would be all done with the GC by then :(

question:

how did you guys do to get your marriage certificate only a few days after being married?

we're using a reverend and she said she'll take care of the administration and paperwork stuff and bring them back to the city hall to get registered.

i kind of want to convince her to leave the marriage license signed to us and we'll bring it the next day.

do you think it's possible?

you wanty honest opinion? If I could do it over again...

You can handwrite or type the forms. Print them out now, fill them out now. The only thing pending will be marriage date and cert, and possibly SSN but u don't even need that.

This is what I did...the license belongs to you...the reverand is only filling 'their part' in...tell them it us of extreme importance related to immigration than you take the license in yourself to the clerks office in the courthouse. If u inquire nicely, they can usually print you a certified copy on the spot the same day! You can have your marriage certificate the day after if you take it in yourself. These officiants do many weddings during the week and only go to the courthouse to file them all once a week... You could lose days waiting on them.

Technically you can have your AOS filed within a Fay or two after getting married if you want.

Trust me, if you have time, fill out the forms now....that is, if you're anything like me, you'll want to rush it :))) do you remember me with the consulate interview dates? Lol! Haha!

Good luck, and get started! :)

sorry for typos, I'm on my phone, tanning on the beach lol!

Back to the address change issue...

I moved just before my fiance came to the US last year, so our k-1 paperwork was all old address and when we filed AoS we just filled out everything with the new address. Never did any address change forms. Everything was fine. AoS approved, green card came to the correct new address. We were told to do it this way since it's now a new form you're filling out, address change forms are unnecessary. They are used when you change address while you're waiting for something to be approved. For instance, if you moved AFTER you filed the AoS but haven't received green card or anything else yet. USCIS will correspond to whatever address you enter on your application forms.
