Anyone get sick after coming back?

Delayed reaction? Not usually, food poisoning gets you within the first 24 hours or so.

May be a change of climate/hours perhaps?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

If I remember right, Bridget got sick after coming back from one of her visits here.

But, as someone mentioned it probably isn't the food. Just coincidence on timing perhaps.

Hope you feel better soon. (F)

First time I went I was sick to my stomach for about two weeks or so.

Second time I went I was also sick to my stomach for about two weeks, got pneumonia and then had my gallbladder removed. :P

I've never gotten sick and have drank the water straight from the tap each time I've been there. My sister, on the other hand, was increadibly ill for weeks after she went just once. If the problem persists, do see a doctor, in case it's some germs or parasites medicine can help with.

I always get sick when I come back to the US.. Sometimes flu from the flight and close quaters.. other times my digestive system takes a while to get used to US food again... I'm guessing it could be the preservatives etc in my case...

My best friend developed schistosomiasis or another type of ameobic or parasitic "infection" while in Egypt. Her symptoms did not appear until several days after her exposure. She was very very seriously ill and if not treated properly by a tropical medicine specialist while she was in Egypt who recognized her problem immediately I hate to think what could have happened to her. If you aren't better in 24 hours I'd see someone and be sure they understand where you were and what kind of activities you did... (Like splashing in the Nile, eating from street vendors, etc.)

I'd error on the side of caution.. I almost lost my best friend over what she thought at first was a little Pharoah's revenge... thank God she got good treatment!

I have seen that many people have had serious issues from bacterial infections as a result of insect bites...

I'm the same. Always fine when I am there, but queasy, sick to my stomach when I get back. I have also chalked it up to getting used to US food (preservatives, etc) again.

I have been sooooo sick on my stomach since Monday, I got back on Sat. I was never sick while I was there. I guess it is possible to have a delayed reaction to some food or something?

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had raging diarrhea when I got back and was fine the whole time there.

My best friend traveled to EG with me the first time and came back and had C Difficile. She lost 20 pounds before they figured out what was wrong with her. She had a colonoscopy done and they took some type of samples of stool prior to. She was on a strong antibiotic for awhile. I had a raging case of diarrhea the first time I went from going to KFC and they put ice cubs in my drink...at least that is what I am sure that it is unless it was some kind of food issue.

I think the close quarters on the long flights contribute to a lot of illnesses when you get back. Only 3 days back from my trip to Morocco in 2005 and I had to go to the doctor's with a strep throat infection.
