When I did my change of address, I did both just to be safe.. I submitted it online as well as a hard copy. I didnt have a problem at all with stuff being mailed to my old address.

But the instructions say not to submit a hard copy if you are submitting online...

Did they send you a receipt notice in the mail (at your new address)?

I submitted online and never got any hard copy of confirmation letter, but there was an online confirmation code which you get when you submit, so I kept that safely.

My husband who submitted i-865 did get a confirmation letter though.

If you do it online, you will not receive a letter in the mail as a confirmation, but you will be able to print a copy of your electronic AR 11 form, which will have a confirmation number. With that number, you will be able to reprint the copy any time you want.

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=co...r.Print.Request

I just changed my address online, but my husband sent I-865 to Nebraska and got confirmation letter a few days later.

If the US Citizen/Spouse sponsor is also moving, they will need to file an I-865 to report sponsor's new address.

My husband filed his AR-11 online and like others said he received a confirmation # after he submitted it, then about 2 weeks later he received an NOA for it in the mail.

I also filed form I-865 and followed their mailing instructions so that I could have proof of having mailed it but I also received an NOA for it in the mail.

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll do the AR-11 through the mail (along with the I-865) since I want to get an Enhanced Drivers License and need proof of my new residence (which is what the NOA would serve as)

Enhanced DL?? I know that in NY State only US Citizens can get an Enhanced DL, this allows travel into Canada and Mexico by land without a passport, or passport card. It is used to prove US Citizenship. Green-card holders still need to carry their green-card to enter Canada or Mexico by land.

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering the same thing too, as I have to file an AR-11 and I-865 too.....

I will probably file the AR-11 both online and hard copy by mail, just in case

My husband can file the I-865 by mail...

One question about the AR-11 online though:

-Do they ask for a mailing address or a physical location address? I have both that are different...

So should I fill out both addresses, or just use one of the addresses? If I use one, which one should I use? Mailing or Physical?

As for the DMV...

I just went there this week, filled out the forms with my new addresses (mailing and physical) on it and they had no problems with updating that in their system. I got a sticker at the back of my driver's license, wrote my new (mailing, since they wanted me to write such) address on the sticker...and that was it....

By the way, if you are a non-citizen, you cannot get an EDL (as YuandDan also mentioned too)! You have to wait until citizenship for that. Meanwhile, travel with your green card and foreign passport and other documents and you should be ok there...If you are the USC though, yes, you can get an EDL. You just need a US birth certificate and/or passport, residency documents (a utility bill, for example), an SSN, and other documents, for such. No need to show them your NOA for that (as I don't think it's on their list of acceptable documents anyways...at least here in NYS it's not...)....

Form AR-11

Present Address (Street or Rural Route)
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/ar-11.pdf (It does NOT Say MAILING address.)

AR-11 has to do with USCIS knowing your physical location, where you are living.

If they allowed PO-Boxes, you could in theory move many times, without having to file AR-11. This is NOT the case, you are required to file one anytime you MOVE.

You can use PO Boxes on forms like I-751 when removing conditions, there are lines for "Mailing" address, and "Home" address.

i've done the ar-11 online and never got anything in the mail, but obv saved the copy with that weirdo number. i guess it doesn't matter since we ended up so far where we started.

as far as a new addy before POE, you can change it at POE. they asked us if the address was the right one when crossing.
